  • Really bad performance on SE

Just bought Vienna SE and all is well but maybe I am using it wrong but seems not. I am for instance loading up about 10 differnt SE plugins on each audio instrumenet track so I basically have a full orchestra. But then what is the point of having so many matrix slots if you can only use one at time. By that I mean If I load a string and then a tuba into the same Vienna Instrument I can't play them of the same track.....am I making sense, so this is resulting in really bad performance of Vienna I get loads os cracks and pops and core oveload. I know my ppc G5 dual 2.3 / 2.3 ram 10.4.8 is upto it cause I have had well over 48 audio or audio instrument tracks with loads of plugins and I never have to freeze......Am I using Vienna completely the wrong way.

Just to Clarify I'm on Logic 7.2 motu 896 ppc g5 2.3/2.5 ram with Se installed on one of my internal drives.......

  • Ok reply... I found I has loads of matrix's that wern't being used, it has inproved a bit but that still doesn't asnwer a really basic question that is I have to use th SE tool for each individual instrument on a different track everytime....basic I know but I am new to the Vienna family.......

  • Hi there. The Vienna Instrument is not multimbral, so you can't stack several of them up on one instrument track and have them receiving on different MIDI channels. As you've discovered, you need to use one VI per track. (Like it or not, that's the way the instrument is designed!)

  • Cheers I figured as much because it only pops up in the stereo pane not multichannel but no harm in checking,,,,,,,

VI can be loaded with different instruments in same instance.

You have 2 slots per matrix cell plus parallel slot each of which you can load with a different instrument. This is what I understand as multitimbral.

    thanks

  • You can load up to 144 patches in one VI matrix and switch freely between them. You can also layer three or four patches within a matrix. However, the matrix's patches can't be set to receive on different MIDI channels, which means the VI is not multitimbral.
