  • NOW I get it

I've been going through the VSL SE VI set I bought yesterday and all I can say is, I finally get what the hype has been all about. My Kontakt 2 VSL bundled sounds didn't even scrape the surface of how bloody good these samples are. And I love the VI player. I'm still getting used to navigating but I like the look and feel. And those samples...GORGEOUS! Even though I only bought the standard library, I have been having loads of fun trying out the Extended library with the temp license (thankfully sent to me by Christian when he noticed I was using a Steinberg key not the Vienna Key that comes with the 30 day demo license for the xtended lib).

Herb, Dietz and co. I own every orchestral sample lib on the market (MOTU, EW, Miroslav, Garritan, etc) and this is the first time I have been honestly bowled over by orchestral samples. I'm just having a ball trying out licks using the saxophones.

Bravo to all at VSL. And I'm glad I finally got my arse in gear and purchased this library.

  • Congrats! Your excitement is contagious, and I feel like laying down the $$ to buy VI right now after reading your post, but I just have to make sure I will have enough computer power to handle it and if my host (Tracktion) will be able to as well.

BTW, I've also been a user of EWQL and GPO. Hopefully I can call myself a VSL convert soon.

  • Well Eric, I guess it depends on your funds and all. I have been playing around with the Extended library part of the VI SE and they are totally awesome. The saxes in of themselves justify the extra cash. And the guitars, Epic Horns, well, there's just too much to talk about...I'm going back to playing.

p.s. here's a link to a little thing I threw together using alto and tenor saxes, Bosendorfer piano, and rotary vibes.

  • Nice piece. The tenor worked especially well.

    Best,
    Jay

  • Thanks Jay! I really respect your demos. In fact, they were the reason I purchased this library!

  • Hi Fiery Angel and welcome!

Not only will you enjoy the SE - you will also find this forum to be a wealth of information and helpful advice.

Case in point: DG has gone out of his way to help me with an audio-breakup issue with SE on my system - even emailing me a demo version of Forte to rule out Host issues. Quite humbling, actually.

One day I hope to contribute in some small way, once I become fully profficient with the VI interface - and it won't take long [[;)]]

  • Hi Mike. Actually I have been around on this forum for a few years now and have been so envious of the VSL users. I had attempted to buy Opus 1 a couple years ago but alas funds were limited at the time. So I'm really happy to be a bonified user now.
