    I have been playing the VSL Piano and do so love the sound of it - of
    the 7 or 8 sampled pianos I own its almost the best.
    The reason I write almost is that while the sound is better and more natural than any of the others - the limitation to 7 vel.layers really is a limitation.

    The transition up from p to ff is just to abrupt I feel.
    Is there any chance of Vienna adding 3 ( or better 5 ) more layers ?

    This would really make this piano the perfect one without any competition.

    so please please...

    Anyone else here feel the same?

    Hi Sapkiller. I would say there's no chance of getting more layers now the piano is finished - it would involve a whole new sampling session with a real risk that the new samples wouldn't quite match the existing layers. Even if they did, all of VSL's programming work would have to be pulled apart to insert the new samples and theri release triggers. Realistically, it's not going to happen!

    Having played a few 12-layer sampled grands I wondered whether seven layers was enough? I came to the conclusion that in an arrangement you'd be hard pushed to hear the difference and that the timbre of the Bosendorfer was a more important consideration.

    Yes- I realize that some problems would be involved - and your probably
    right that the chances are very slim - but still... It would make it perfect.

    As it is now I find myself pondering over which piano to use - There is no
    doubt that the sound and timbre of the VSL Bosendorfer is the best of all the Bosendorfers out there. ( and indeed all sampled pianos ) - so I tend to
    go with this.

    At the same time, when playing it, I always feel that the midrange of the dynamics are to condensed.
    Both the soft end and the loud end are covered ( pp and ff ) - but I miss
    some details in the middle - especially the transition towards ff.

    It like the old shower rutine: "a bit to cold - turn a little up, arghg to hot!" [[;)]]

    Does anybody agree on this ? - Or am I just being to critical.

    I think I hear what you mean, there seems to be a slight jump in timbre up to the harder-sounding loud layer(s). But it is rather subtle! Having said that, I find that all sampled pianos tend to feel a bit mechanical and limited compared to the real thing, especially in exposed solo passages.

    every sampled piano I know has its weakness - but the VSL just has this
    amazing Bos sound and for once we could approach perfection - if only...
    Please just 3 layers more [:)]
