  • firewire hard drives

I am wondering if someone at VSL could advise -
do you recommend or discourage the use of an external hard drive connected by firewire to a Gigastudio setup?

firewire-drives operate fine - not only with GS
considering that firewire(IEEE1394) has a bandwidth of 400 Mbit/sec which means a datarate of about 47 Mbytes/sec no single harddrive will be able to supply that amount of data (very fast ATA-drives provide about 20 MBytes/sec _real_ datarate)
we have a series of setups with one or more firewire-disks connected and all of them perform fine

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks very much for the information.
