Since I started this thread I feel like I should give my input after having used SE for a few weeks now. I have been very pleased and have no regrets at all about the purchase. I think I put too much expectation on the Universal mode based on the demos on the site so when I didn't see it in the SE version I was dissapointed. I have to say that the implementation and playability of the engine is really amazing. I have several of these samples in Giga format and find it much easier to work in the SE inviroment. Much more playable and the legato patches are really amazing. I find that I am using combinations of both platforms but when I need to really have control over the patch I'm going to the SE version fairly consistantly. Great Work Herb!

Do you want to tell me that this is actually not the case?

Because if this is so, then they will have lots of problems with people suing them.

All the mentioned features are implemented, you get exactly the same functionality of the Vienna Instruments as with the bigger collections. Of course there are less samples available, but the "musical intelligence" regarding the interval and repetition detection is always available [:)]

Now that I understand it, I can probably answer it.

The Universal Mode was actually a pre-made patch using a large number of articulations with all the nuances covered. The lack of articulations means there are no pre-made patches like this in SE, but there are enough that you can create your own variation instead. The player and features of said player are the same from SE to the full library. The only difference is the # of articulations & dynamic layers.

Now I must admit that this library is looking very interesting.
I like to create music but it is only a hobby and I do not have that much time for it.

Thats why I'm interested if the performance detection can help to save my time.

I can imagine that it needs to be fed by the sequencer to work because it has to look ahead, correct?

I cannot imagine this working while I play.

OK, after some hours of research in the Internet and downloading the manual I understood that performance detection is implemented as a controller that can be used.

So I could use them, but do I have to configure this for all instruments or are there predefind configurations that I can use for this?

Paul, the question in this thread is whether there are presets in SE that use the speed detection and the answer to that is no. One needs to build those. This the entire crux of this thread and there are more than a few people that are very disappointed that there is no "universal mode" for any of the instruments in SE.

Universal mode is a highly advertised feature of the Vienna Instruments and is also the sole subject of one of the videos that is used to show off the the VI player. This video is included in the videos that describe the SE in particular. The physical manual that come with SE also describe these presets but not that they aren't included in the SE.

So the message that the development team needs to get is to either add this to the product or stop advertising it. It is bordering on misleading.

You wold need only one per instrument.
Maybe something to think about for a patch or something like that.

dbudde, I agree that it is a bit misleading on the web page, but the universal mode is not mentioned in any of the describing text on any web site I looked at.
So the only misleading thing is:
-The video and
-You expectations.


I believe that we cannot expect to get everything for this price.
VSL needs to keep enough good things for the Cube users.

Universal Mode seemed important when I first got VI, but after the first week or so I never used it, so it's not that important to me. My own presets are much better suited to my workflow.

Just bought the SE partly because I watched the Universal mode video online (it's also on the SE install disc which is a bit strange if it's not applicable [*-)]). Even although not all of the articulations are there, it would have been nice to either have clearly pointed-out that Universal mode isn't part of SE or have some similar "Universal Mode Lite" patches bundled with SE to help.

Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely bit of software but it's not quite what I thought I was getting.

Looking over your posts in this thread it looks to me as if you didn't read the first page, where I answer your question.

Forget about the Universal Mode, it's nothing but a preset you can make yourself in 2 mins, if you have the articulations, that is.

What is interesting and groundbreaking about this software is the speed-detection and matrix control, and it's all inside the plugin in the SE. SE or cube - same plugin, but not same amount of samples.

Yes and exactly. It is actually the performance detection that is interesting me.
But do you think that they make sence with the less samples of the SE.

I'm still waiting for a SE owner to write that he is using this feature sucsessfully and that it makes sence.

I'm not good enough to hear sample changes that might have been selected with the speed-detection in any of the songs people have composed so far.
