  • chamber violas short detache

    Hello everybody,

I was wondering if something's wrong with the short det. of the chamber violas. They sound much longer then the other chamber strings and I just can't use them now in an unisono part. Making them shorter with the editor doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

    Greetings,

    Wim

  • It's not just about the lenght but also the attack....89 tempo for 16 notes is too fast for the chamber violas short det. but not for the viola solo or the other strings, solo or ensemble...
I also noticed it says that the chamber violas have 5 vel layers. Is that normal?
    Any response greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Wim,

yes, the viola short détachés do have 5 velocity layers. And it's true that 16ths at 89 might be a bit too fast and would actually require staccato. Alas (or luckily), the recordings of identical articulations from different instruments are never really the same ...

    Kind regards,
    David
