  • Using controllers to navigate in VI

    Hello,

I just got a controller, the Evolution UC-33, that looks useful for navigating through VI, because it has a lot of freely assignable knobs, faders and buttons on it. Until now I used the modulation wheel on my Doepfer LMK3 for vertical scrolling and one of the two sliders for horizontal scrolling. This slider generates controller 6 messages.
I could now use a fader or a knob on this UC 33 to do the same, setting it to controller 6, data entry. I just wondered: these controls all generate a lot of midi data. It seems very inefficient to use them, as it will clutter Logic (in my case) with extra data, where only a few instances of this data would be enough to scroll horizontally across let's say 5 cells or vertically across three.
I don't know enough about the midi controllers to know what other possibilities there are. I would like to have buttons for horizontal and vertical scrolling, that generate midi messages for 'go left' or 'go right, or 'go up' and 'go down'. Any suggestions?

    Greetings,

    Gerard

  • You can quantise the data in Logic environment to remove the clutter. In fact one of the modules in my Vienna Control environment does just that. As you turn the modwheel only the values 0, 42, 84 and 127 end up in Logic, so less clutter in your event list. I only did a 2, 3 and 4 way as once you get over 4 positions on a wheel its a bit difficult to control.

  • Hello Pete,

This is the second time you help me!
I will try your module certainly.

  • By the way, Pete,

Now that we can control the filter with velocity in Vienna, I don't think I need your filter controller anymore (does not sound very grateful, but is not meant that way!) How can I remove it? I deleted the black square plus the range limiter and I think the two monitors. But after that there was no sound at all!

  • You need to reconnect the cable, whaterver was going into it (Physical input?) to whatever the output was connected to (Sequencer in?).

Whatever happens there must be a cable from Physical Input to sequencer input, it can have objects in between but the they must always be cabled.
