  • Hello Titi,

I have moved your topic to the Vienna Instruments Forum, hope you don´t mind.

I have just checked and you licensed the Full Library of Solo Strings and Chamber Strings for the Vienna Instruments. That should give you a good overview of the workflow [:)]

The basic rule is: The more computers (which means also more RAM), the more comfortable your work will be. This depends a lot on the expectations you have and also on the kind of music you write.

Please tell us more about your plans, I´m sure you´ll get some good advice from your colleagues on this forum as well [:)]

    Best,

    Paul

  • Thank you Paul for your quick and clear answer.

So I'm looking for someone who could give me more details for my system.

    Let's resume :

I record with Cubase 4 and I use the Halion Symphonic Orchestra, chamber strings and solo strings of the VSL. I'll probebly complete with around half of the all VSL. That's all. And I will probably use hardware for the effects ( maybe Lexicon MPX 500 ).

I write music for orchestra, and I need the result to be as good as possible ( many articulations, many instruments at the same time ... ).
Do someone work like this or almost ?
Do I have to isolate cubase 4 on a computer ?
Do I have to put together by family the vst instruments ?
How do I have to connect the different computers ?

Thank you for your precious answers.

    David.

On this forum, you will find users with one to 5, 6 computers.
If you load only what you need for each project, you don't need many computers
If you want to have all articulations always available, I think you will need about 4 slaves computers (for the symphonic cube).

You can't split the library as you want (for example, strings orchestra 1 & 2 must be on the same computer).

There are two main ways to connect the computers :

    - Each slave with an audio interface.
    - Or you can use FxTeleport. With this software you don't have to put a soundcard in the slaves computers. Audio data use the network to come back to the master computer.

  • Hello StĂ©phane,

    Thank you for your answer.

That's funny. We don't leave so far from each other.
Can I give you my mail here and can you give me yours ?

    David.

  • Hello StĂ©phane, hello Titi,

let me know if you need any additional infos: p.steinbauer@vsl.co.at.

Just for clarification: Of course you can spread Orchestral Strings I&II on 2 computers, that´s exactly the reason why we split them! Each collection can reside on 1 computer.

  • Thank you again Paul.

    David.

  • Hi,

I just realized that there is one drawback: If you split the Orchestral Strings I&II on 2 computers, you cannot use the big Orchestral Strings patches (double basses, cellos and violins spread across the keyboard) anymore - that´s what Stéphane may have meant.
