  • Help Setting Up FX Teleport

I'm trying to set up FX Teleport to evaluate it with VI, but I'm not too knowledgable in networking, and after searching the net for answers I think I'm getting more and more confused. If I could just ask a few questions based on the FX Teleport site's installation instructions, it may clear things up for me. So forgive me if this gets a bit long...

First off, I have two computers -- 1)Main DAW and 2)Slave with VI instruments. The networked the computers with the network wizard and they are both seeing each other fine through a 10/100/1000 switch. So all is good there.

I've installed FX-Telelport on both machines (Master for DAW, and Server for Slave) -- and on the slave have showed it where to look for the VST instruments there.

Now from the FX-teleport installation instructions (in italics), these are my questions:

You need to have TCP/IP protocol installed and configured. By default FX Teleport uses TCP and UDP port 5555. In case your ports 5555 are busy, set another port value both in the FXT server and FXT wrapper dialog boxes.
    1. Is my TCP/IP protocol installed and configured if I'm able to see and share files and drives between the two computers? (as is the current case).
    2. Do I need to set the TCP and UDP port to 5555? Or is that taken care of behind the scenes?

If you have Firewall installed, make sure your slave computer permits using the network for Server.exe, and your master computer permits using the network for your sequencer application.
    3. Should I have a firewall running on the Slave machine?
    4. How do I make sure the Slave computer permits using the network for Server.exe, and the DAW computer permits using the network for the sequencer (in this case SONAR).

    The problem I had:

Both computers are up and running and networked through the Gigabit switch. I launched FX Teleport Server on the slave computer. I then launched the Configure.exe on the master (DAW) and showed it where my VST folder is for SONAR. At that point I'm waiting for the plug-ins and servers to appear in the list on the left, but they never did, and eventually the program crashed I believe. When I try to launch it now, it doesn't even launch at all. I'm going to re-install FX teleport on the master machine and see if this will help.

But still, I'd like to know something about the above networking questions, or any tips you guys might have in setting up FX-Teleport.

    Thanks so much,
