Would a quad core mac pro with 1.5ghz dual bus, 4X 7200 RPM internal SATA drives, and 3 firewire 800 buses each with 2 7200 fw 800 drives do the job? (9 drives for VSL in total).
Plus wouldn't it be "relatively" and I stress "relatively" easy to get the VSL server to use "all" available RAM as a type of cache when and where headers were not loaded already - spreading the load if you like - another way of putting it - changing the focus of the engine to being less efficient with RAM for the benefit of drive usage, where there is lots of ram available? So the headers load first, and then a cache is opened up for all of the other data that is streamed.
Miklos.
