  • Appassionata Celli notes.....

    First the great stuff....

The Appass Celli sound like Romantic Celli [;)] Very beautiful, lush...everything we had hoped for....

    Now the not so great:

I was hoping to be able to go into my "celli" computer / slave and simply substitute the celli articulations from the old VI.........with new ones from Appass....

Example: substitute the Apass celli PFP's and Cresc / Dims instead of the old ones since the new ones are so nice and lush....HOWEVER 2 things:

The old PFP's have 2 velocity layers, the new ones only 1 (bummer) Also the maximum volumes of all the Appass Strings are nearly 4 to 5 db lower than the old ones.........

Since all celli old and Appass will go to the same stem, this creates problems when trying to make substitutions and loading ongoing projects.....

Why didn't you guys match the volumes?

they sound great though...It just adds like 1/2 a week of "fixing" autoload and old projects....

I'm a bit bummed about this.

  • Appass violas:

Come on - post a snippet? I'm dying to hear the celli exposed. Take it away!

    What?!?!?!? Hmmmm... Are you sure?

  • Just checked the products page - bummer....

Will this be added? Seems very odd to leave it out - so odd that I missed it when looking at the products page because it never occured to me... I was actually looking forward to some more booming bass.

  • I don't think that I've ever used a Perf leg Double Bass. In the real world there is a devil of a job to get many string players to play legato anyway; they all seem to want to play a horrible portato instead. Actually, this is a French way of playing, but I don't believe in it. When I want portato I'll write it!

To get back to the topic, I find that the basses are the hardest to convince to play legato, so I never program it that way.

    DG

  • Agreed - but perhaps AP basses could improve upon it? Maybe there is a sustain_Auto patch? That would also be fine.

We tried to keep the natural dynamic over the full instrument range as realistic as possible. To achieve this, it's necessary to have a larger dynamic headroom for certain notes which are louder.
