Ok, I've been waiting patiently(not really) for months. Can we plz move to 64bit land and lose the horrible RAM limits?
So, Vista is here (Win64bit has been around for a year now), Sonar operates in 64bit land, Motu (and others) have 64bit vista sound card drivers, and MOL is 64bit now.
Can there be any other reason not to go into 64bit land with VI? I mean really. I assume you guys are working hard on it (i hope this is a very high priority). I'm just wondering if I could be enlightened as to what some of the technical holdups might be.
Originally I was lead to believe that because Steinberg hadn't released their VST3 SDK yet, that 64 bit VST's were not possible yet. I finally got high enough up on the totem pole over at Cakewalk and spoke to, Noel, their Cheif Technology Officer and he assured me that a plugin does not need to adhere to VST3 standards to operate in a 64bit environment and that there were several 64bit VST plugins currently working with Sonar. His comment was that it is completely up to the developer to provide a 64bit plugin.
CAN WE HAVE ONE PLZ???!! [:O]ops: (whoops, did I just yell that out loud?)
My investment in slave computers will double overnight as soon as I'm able to access all the RAM in my comps. AND I may finally be able to get an orchestra in all-up mode, so that I can do away with most of my sample loading/unloading, and just work.
neway, Any info that could soothe me and enlighten my understanding on why i can still only get 2.5 gigs loaded into a pc would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks guys
