  • Bösendorfer RAM & system requirements?

Noting that the new Bösendorfer library is 55GB, I'm wondering whether it is so large that it would require a machine dedicated to it - - or at least make it necessary to run it in Standalone mode (where it would inhabit its own RAM partition) while other VI's are running as plugins?

    Hi Stevesong,

I can hardly imagine an arrangement that requires the performance of a whole computer dedicated to Bösendorfer-VI (unless its an older machine with a slow CPU or way too little RAM). One Preset <VSL_Bosendorfer Imperial - Close Mic> for e.g requires 288 MB of RAM.
The amount of disk space needed for the content is 37 GB since it is compressed.

  • just to mention: please leave a significant amount of space free on your harddisk for sample streaming (at least 10%, better 20% of total storage) to avoid samples beeing stored in the slower regions of a harddisk.
this is also the reason why we write the uncompressed size of a collection in the system requirements whereas you need in fact ~1/3 less.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Maya and Christian - - thanks for your quick response. I should't have problems then as I have a 1 terabyte SATA RAID 0 for samples - 830GB still free (but not for long) and 7GB of RAM in my dual 2.5GHz G5.
