    Two questions for some kind soul (or, I should say, yet another kind soul, as I've already found this forum incredibly informative):

    1. I'm on the verge of buying VI and intend ultimately (as quickly as possible) to go the "computer slave" route, putting VSL on its own computer or set of computers. But for now, I'm running DP in DAE mode, and there's no RTAS version of VI. Keeping in mind that DP in DAE mode does not allow for the use of ReWire, is there any way I can address the VI standalone on the same computer on which I'm running DP?

    2. Is the VI standalone multitimbral, or does it provide you with one Vienna Instrument only? If the latter is true, can you have multiple VI standalones open and addressable on one computer?

    Really, I'm looking for a way to buy and start exploring VI while I figure out my ultimate hardware configuration. I.e., this would be a temporary solution -- doesn't have to work THAT well, just well enough for me to start learning VI.

    1. Yes, by using the IAC Driver bus.
    2. You have 244 cells in each Matrix. You can switch cells in various ways (midi messages, keyswitches...), but two (or more) cells can't play at the same time. You can load up to two instruments per cell. So, usually, you would load your violins on one instance, your violas on another instance, etc. Check out This thread describes how to get more than one stand-alone instances. Take into account that using Stand-Alone instances does not allow you to select the audio channel output of your audio interface (you always have to use 1-2). So you'll be limited in terms of mixing. The aforementioned thread is pretty complete regarding that kind of questions...

    Thanks, Jerome -- yet again! So is the VI standalone version VST, AU, or is that not a relevant concept when talking about the standalone instrument?
