    Hi all,

    I am new to Macs but because I am a Logic user and the whole “eMagic thing” I have just ordered a new G5 with Apple’s 23 inch cinema display. I am hoping to use it for my sequencing and continue to use my win98se based machine for Giga and VSL. My question is, is there a way to use the 23 inch monitor for both machines with out compromising video quality on either one? I don’t really need to control both machines from one keyboard/mouse (but that would be ok too). I just need to be able to switch views between each machine. If I understand correctly the 23” monitor and the G5 are entirely digital. I would prefer to keep it that way and make any conversion that is necessary be to the Win machine. Does anyone out there have any suggestions or recomendations about hardware (switch boxes, vkm, etc.)? Does anyone have this setup, and are there any pitfalls that I should know before buying the necessary hardware?

    There was some discussion about this on www.Macintouch.com a week or two ago. You might search the archives for DVI KVM or ADC KVM.

    I'm pretty sure Geffen and Dr. Bott's both sell switches, but one of the issues will be whether the PC supports those monitor resolutions.

    The other issue is going to be price, because those switchboxes are up there.

    I don't mean to be critical Scott but (mainly because I drool at the mention of G5s) I have to ask - you're going to use a G5 for sequencing rather than samples!?!

    That's a bit like using a nuclear fusion bomb for cleaning your sink.

    The processing power of that machine makes a win98 pc look like a hand calculator. What would be a thousand times better use of expensive hardware would be to use the Mac for VSL. Believe me - you need the power. You can sequence from anything down to a 386 DOS machine.

    By sequencing I mean not only Midi but audio recording and running video at the same time. Additionally, I already own the vsl library and several others in Giga format. To clarify, I’ll be running everything but the Giga stuff on the G5. But for reasons of space I would like to get rid of the Windows machine’s monitor.

    That makes more sense though a G5 is exactly what the VSL needs.
