  • VI Can't Find Patches

Complete Mac crash with corrupted user preference files. Seven hour diagnostic and rebuild, including four calls and Apple "tier two" tech support.

    Currently have...

    Proven Logic 7.1 works.

Proven Delta 1010. Can play EXS and audio files. Latest driver.

Proven Syncrosoft. All licenses present. Latest version.

Proven VI standalone MIDI input. Latest version.

"No patch" in either standalone or VST in Logic.

I have run VI Directory Manager at least seven times with correct folders selected. Drives with data are intact and separate from operating system drive.

    OS 10.4.4. 4.5 GB.

Will contact VSL tech suppport soon, but thought someone here might see something I've missed.

  • If you delete all the folders in the directory manager and then just drag them all back in from your drive that may do the trick. It did for me when I had that problem (based upon JWL's advice.)

  • just to have it mentioned: the ADD FOLDER button in the directory manager dos not work recursive (= add subfolders), if you use drag&drop from a finder window the hierarchy will be splitted down to the last subfolders.

in other words: if you add only a surrounding folder using the ADD button no data files are made familiar to the ViennaInstruments software and you will see no patches.

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Thanks to Christian, Dave (and JWL).

As another visual clue, if you drag collective instrument folders (Brass I, Orchestral Strings I, etc.) into Directory Manager's window, the sub folders will appear. If you add them with DM's "Add Folder" button, it will only report the top folder (which has no data of its own).

  • (Cheers, Plowman!)

Has there been any chat from anyone about the DM being updated?

I mean, it couldn't be simpler or more straighforward, and yet I must flush all the files and reload them once or twice a week. It doesn't refresh itself as it suggests that it can, and the frequency of dropped file connections is just not a delightful experience.
