    Dear folks, I am wondering if someone might explain to me exactly what kind of articulation these patches (which are described as "bow vibrato") represent and when they might be ideally used.

    usally during an up- or downbow a player moves the bow as homogeneous as possible to achieve a consistent sound. with bow-vibrato, the player alternates the weight of the bowpressure in a certain rhythm while he is moving the bow. this repetitions are very smooth, because there is no new attack on each note.
