    but of course it _is_ mathematics, as discussed here spanning a bend from string theory over representation of a certain group of 2-dimensional matrices to elliptic curves.
    although i have to admit this article is somehow detached from anything ...

    AFAIK the *12* (a dozen) has its origin in the mesopotamian culture and is closely related to agriculture because the moon cycles 12 times during one cycle of the sun.
