Two new short compositions (extracts)

Unfortunately I have had almost no time to compose recently. To help me get going again, I wondered if anyone would be so kind as to offer comments on the following two extracts of incomplete pieces. Samples are mostly VSL, with a few obvious exceptions. Both rather contemplative in mood, but each in their own completely different way.

1. Romantic, scored for solo violin, piano, alto flute, french oboe, and chamber strings (2 mins.)

I like these pieces. Have been concentrating myself on trying to get more space for individual groups with Altiverb, so I'm focuse don this issue... like me, I think your work would benefit with more space.

Romantic: does definately sound romantic to my ears, altough there is a nice 'sour' undertone to it during the first half.
Also, it has a bit of a 50s filmscore feeling to it, which I rather like.

Pseudo-Ethnic: I always love listening to 'daring' music, altough I don't really care for the clichéd 'Chinese' sounds, but more the western-eastern approach that Jerry Goldsmith used for films like The Sand Pebbles and The Chairman.

This piece has a very soothing atmosphere, and doesn't go too much towards those cliche sounds. I especially like the flute dancing around that sharp 'stinger' sound (the name has gone somewehere lost in my head).

I think the sound of this one is more focussed than the previous romantic piece. More balanced.
