  • Macpro Performance mode and glitches

OK....forum...a confirmation and a question please: When I got the solo string instruments I was told that the performance tool was not yet compatible with the intelmacpro laptops (I'm running Vienna through a very fast intelmacpro with 2 megs of ram and the samples stored on a 7200rpm external hard drive). I assume "not yet compatible" is the reason that, while it still comes up in the EXS24 in LogicPro 7.2, it sometimes drops out and it makes the space designer reverb go nutty on final releases. Is this what others have experienced as the compatibilty issue?

I was also told (by US distributor Ilio) that the performance detection componant would in fact work fine on the intel macs. I could get performance detection, just not a compatible performance tool. SO what does this mean, practically, in terms of what and how I can load these samples within the LogicPro EXS24? can I only load a single patch on a single instrument until VSL releases a compatible version for the performance tool? Is loading matrices or presets what's making the space designer crazy? It's def not ram as the space designer is cpu intensive but not related much to
    RAM.

Any and all advice or thoughts GREATLY appreciated.

  • mark, while you're posting in the ViennaInstruments forum you're writing about *performance tool* which is an additional piece of software for the pro edition and horizon series, whereas performance detection would be a feature of the ViennaInstruments software - so i'm confused now.

VSL sample libraries (pro edition, horizon series) are 16 bit, available for several platforms (giga, exs, kontakt, halion) and their performance elements need the performance tool (which is not yet available as native version for intelmacs)

Vienna Instruments (symphonic cube collections) are 24 bit, running as VST- or AU-plugin as well as stand-alone for OSX and XP (for OSX intel a public beta is available in software updates and works fine)

so please rephrase your question, because *i'm running vienna* doesn't say too much about the used product(s) - all we know so far is that you're on an intelMAC running LogicPro and SpaceDesigner
    christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • sorry for the confusionn christian. I'm running the Vienna Instruments solo strings collection, running as an AU plugin in Logicpro. So pretty sure I AM experiencing the performance detection (it knows when I'm fast, slow, staccato, legato, etci) , but with random audio drop outs and definite problems with the space designer, whether I go large or small on the buffer size. With the space designer, at the tail end of the sound (the final note of a phrase, fast or slow, after the release of the sample, the space designer (in every preset I tried) has a cpu spike and you hear lots of dithering type distortion and then you can't reactivate a sample smoothly until the cpu monitor shows the cpu activity restored to it's normal low level...(about 6 seconds). This behavior of the space designer doesn't happen with, say my akai converted samples or the standard exs library samples. I hope this makes the probelm I'm having clearer. I look forward to you thoughts.
