  • how manage the output and midi with VI

    Hi guys,
i've recently purchase the fantastic box of Chamber strings for ViennaInstruments.Great.
    One question.
If i want to load a set like violins viola cello dbass, could i send any different instruments to different audio output and midi channel? so i can manage on separate tracks (volume, pan, etc) in just one vienna instrument Vst ?
have i to load separate VI vst for each ensamble? one for violins, one for viola etc, with their articulations? is it "hard" for my cpu?

    Thanks

  • Hi Piernicola,

the Vienna Instrument is designed to hold one instrument - you would be able to load violin and viola in one instance, but you cannot access them by different MIDI channels. So if you want a string quartet or all of the chamber strings, you have to open four instances of the VI VST, which you can control on four different MIDI tracks in Cubase.

My setup is similar to yours, and I can manage quite a lot with that. Sometimes I get some pops on the first run after loading, but the second always is ok (could be because of a slow hard disk). Just take care that you don't load too many Matrices at once so you don't overtax your RAM.

I normally make a rough setup for composing a piece, then work on the details track by track, loading additional Patches/Matrices when I need them, then bounce that track to audio and go on to the next one.

    Hope that helps,

  • Thanks David.
yes, i'll load 4 VI vst.
Could you tell me your basic set up for your composition template?
    I'm just curios.

  • Hi Piernicola,

of course the setup depends on the piece you're planning to do. But it's always a good guess to load a perf_universal Matrix which alone is pretty versatile already (if you have the Extended library; otherwise, take the Standard perf-legato Matrix). Apart from that, I built myself Matrices with some basic articulations (staccato, détaché, sforzato and such) resembling the setup of the former GigaStudio instruments because I'm used to that, and it takes a bit less RAM than the Articulation Combi; also, I can easily adapt older pieces with that. Anyway, for sketching a piece the Level 1 Preset is more than sufficient, and you can always fill in what's missing later.

    Cheers,
    David

  • Thx david,
    but i've a little problems.
I can try 4 VI vst and all is ok.
But when i try to load other vst such as bosendorfer nothing happens, i've to take out all vienna instruments and after that i can load all vst.
Seems like that vienna instances take a lot of ram, but the cpu meter is at 30%.All vienna sound are loaded on a sata hd very fast.
    Do you have any idea?
    Something reagarding virtual memory?
    Please help me

    Thanks
    Piernicola

  • Hi Piernicola,

sorry, I don't have the Bosendorfer so I cannot try this. I've run GigaStudio as well as other VST instruments together with VI and never encountered any problems there. Furthermore, I'm off on holiday in the morning. But I'm sure someone will be able to help you ...

    Good luck!
