  • Maya, CM, Herb clicks pops in OSX....What should I do?

    Hi,

My slave computers running 10.4.7 and plogue Bidule as hosts are clicking, popping.

Both slaves are running 8 and 10 instances of the AU VI instances respectively.

Slave A is showing 1.3 gig to VSL-server
Slave B is showing 1.1 gig to VSL-server

    Slave A is a Dual 2Ghz G5 with 4 Gig RAM
    Slave B is a 1.67 Dual Core Mac-Mini with 2 Gig RAM

RME cards in both and they are SYNCHING.

    what am I doing wrong?

Are Tim Kiel and I the only ones experiencing these problems?

Tim claims that his MacMini under XP doesn't click and POP but DOES click/pop under OSX

    What's up?

    sincerely,

    SvK

  • Well I give-up,

The vienna crew must hate me by now....

But as Tim Kiel can attest.....VI is NOT performing reliably at all under OS-X......tommorow I'll get my IT department to set up 3 Windows XP computers to host the VI's.

I'm very dissapointed by a lack of feedback and help on the MAC side of things....I feel like I am being forced to run Windows...but so be it.

    What a bummer.

  • Hi Steven,

we encountered similar problems here when VI on Mac is triggerd by an external Sequencer. I already forwarded this information to our development team.

I plan to do more tests and will keep you informed.

    Best,

    M a y a

Ps.: Here is a test result of our 1st test ->

As sequencer we used Nuendo on a PC and a G5 2.5 Dual with Logic as a host for the VI.
When recording just long notes without too much movement we got 28 voices playing simultaneously without any problems. VSL server needed 1.57 GB RAM with 9 instruments.

With fast repetitions of notes the polyphony dropped to 21 voices in 7 instruments.
Because we loaded more instruments before, the VSL server needed now 1,87 GB.

I attest. [:O] It's definetly an OSX thing. Works fine under WinXP bootcamp on the minis....

  • Maya,

    Thanx for confirmation....

Translated this means that anyone trying to run the entire orchestra from the mac os/x platform is hosed.....since one needs to run slaves and slaves by definition NEED to be triggered by an external sequencer.

  • Maya,

Switched the MacMini / Bidule slave over to XP today.......

    NO clicks
    NO pops

    everything runs smooth now....

BUT nevertheless my home system consists of nothing but G5's which click/pop non-stop.

(except for the main DAW running Logic7)

hope you guys figure it out.

  • Hi SvK [;)]

Just wondering: did you try rax instead of bidoule?

Believe me, we are at pains to do so.

  • Leon,

    no,

I did not try RAX...if at some point I have time, I will though.

  • Svon,
How do you have midi set up?
I'm asking this because if the midi request is too slow, I'm wondering if the clicks and pops are a result of slow request, and not a buffer setting, or sync problem. (I noted you'd had success with the rme cards syncing.) I've read elsewhere that plogue isn't always 'friendly'.

I know this sounds strange, but I've heard stranger.
    Just trying to cover angles.

Have you considered running midi through ethernet, with a switch?
(Or fx-teleport, or the VNC already built into Tiger?)

Good Luck to you and Timkiel, i hope you get it sorted out,

    Alex.

  • Same problem here. Sometimes holding a simple patch on a slave computer (in OS X) will create random pops and clicks. And some other time it's fine...

    Jerome

  • Has there been any progress at solving this issue?

  • For the record, I USED to have a PC slave running Giga and the old VSL library, triggered by my host G5 running Pro Tools.

I OFTEN had clicks and pops, ESPECIALLY when using brass...say....three horn notes and three trombone notes sounding together. LOTS of clicks and pops on sustained chords. That was on a very fast PC too....don't know if this is relevant...just thought I'd chime in...

    Tom

  • Any updated from the VSL team on this? I'm getting my MacPro tomorrow and would love to be able to move to an all OSX implementation rather than running WinXP on my MacMini slaves.

    Cheers

    Tim

  • Hi,

there is already a revised version online in our download area (Vienna Instruments Software Installer OS X Intel 1.07 - public beta) where the mentioned problems should not occur anymore.

    Please find it here:

  • Thanks Maya - will check it out as soon as I can.

  • Hi Maya,

    you say

'there is already a revised version online in our download area (Vienna Instruments Software Installer OS X Intel 1.07 - public beta) where the mentioned problems should not occur anymore.'

What about us not on Intel macs yet? I'm trying to set up a slave G4 Powerbook (2gig RAM) using Plogue Bidule on OS 10.4.7. I've got 6 instances of VI running as a slave from G5 & Logic Pro by Midi over LAN. It's just unusable. The pops/clicks/glitches are constant. But i've got the VI Cube and it's too big/hungry to run on 1 G5. How do i configure multiple Macs if this set-up doesn't work?

  • Is everyone who is slaving a Mac of any kind having this problem?

    Tom

  • Are the pops/clicks present when the VI GUI is closed ?

  • Also, can it be possible that there is a sync issue here? Are the slave Macs being clocked with word clock or some kind of house sync?
