    Hi Dupuy
Yes - as you can see here (page 16)

    Beat Kaufmann

  • Kick ass! Nice to see that publication... I wonder WHEN they release them. Espcialy Elements and Special Winds [:)]

  • When, when, when, oh please tell me when!!

  • Maybe you heard rthis b4, but as a saxophonist I just cnat see how it can be done - every note is such a personal sound, never to be seen again even if the universe exists for infinity [8-)] think of the difference betwen Stan Getz and Charlie Parker - doesnt even sound like the same instrsument!

Maybe I will be proved wrong [[;)]]
    Zero

  • Sure !!! For all instruments, it's better to have a professionnal. But, to prepare a song before to be played, we need to have VSL... if we don't play the saxophone.
I play the piano and I have bought 4 sampled ones, but I'm not satisfied and I go on to search the good one ! ... I understand you'll have the same approach for saxophone !

  • I don't think that any of the other solo instruments are any less personal or unique to those VSL users who play those instruments. String players, for example, can be brutal in their approach to this kind of sequencing.

It is easier to remain objective when you don't have a lifetime of experience in one instrument or another. I'm a pianist, and I'm much pickier about sampled piano collections than most others I know are. Things that they love have often struck me as abhorrent. Fotunately, I've found at least one piano VI that nearly works for my purposes, but often I will play real piano before a particular project is completed.

VSL sax's, the ones I've heard so far, appear to blend and work well in an orchestral context-- Ravel, Bernstein, Gershwin, etc.

If you want Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Wayne Shorter, Cannonball, Ornette Coleman--- or even Bob Mintzer, Courtney Pine, Michael Brecker, Grover Washington, David Sanborn, and SO many more-- each one of these names could inspire an entirely different library. It's so much less generic when it comes to front end improvisational instruments.

But I've heard some remarkable things done with the sax's vol 1. For those of us who can't play sax of any sort, VSL is the closest we're going to get without hiring someone.

  • I am agree with you... you have relevant wording !

For Piano, I use Bosendorfer and Steinway (with Giga), Virtual Piano from Artvista and Gigapiano but the piano I prefer is Malmsjo from Artvista... Which one do you use ?

Right now I use Ivory, and have created numerous custom patches for various purposes. I'm less thrilled with the Bosendorfer and Yamaha samples included, but the Steinway in the Ivory collection are very well done. I love the GUI and its flexibility.

I also have a Yamaha P80, and I like the stock sound of that a lot. The sustains seem to be rolled off a little too quickly, but I've done tracks with it which have fooled a lot of people who thought it was a real grand.

I don't have native GIGA compatibility, so I guess I miss out on a lot of things which are out there. Because so much hinges on the mapping, I've not trusted EXS24 to translate everything properly. Because of Ivory and its multi platform format, I've been using Digital Performer for my pre-production needs and haven't pursued too many other piano collections.

I do have Mach5 (MOTU sampler) on the way. My expectations for the stock library are not that high, but I've heard good things about the sound of their Bosendorfer. However, given that it's less than .5GB, I don't expect much and doubt that it will find much use. But hopefully, I can use other sample libraries with Mach5, given that the file format conversion and key mapping work well.

  • I'll test Ivory... I didn't.
