    Dietz (or anyone else with Altiverb 5 experience),

    The default setting for the "color" button is 100% IR on. Should I be leaving this setting in the default position or should I change it to the "flat" position or somewhere in between? Does it depend on the type of hall? If so, where do you set it with the Konzerthaus Vienna Large Hall IR?

    I can't help you. But I fiddled around with this knob too. With some IRs I had "rub-outs" while crossing the mid position - something like a phasing effect. On the other hand: Some IRs do not have this effect. Sometimes the colour effect is "ugly" sometimes it is nice (Utrecht Chapel and some studio-IRs). Further I observed that some IRs do have complete other reverbs on the flat position than on the coloured side...?
    Perhaps we should ask people of Altiverb for detailed explanations of this effect.

    Color definitely sounds better at 100% unless you need extra clarity. For halls like the amsterdam it has a beautiful sound on the tail but with the short reflections etc it gets muddy quickly, and is much harder to mix with than the konzerthaus. The other way to do it alternatively is to turn down short reflections, or do both if really necessary. I find that if you turn off the color you're not really getting the IR of the room on the sound, so why bother, anyone else find that? On the other hand, too much can be muddy - hence turn down short reflectios, where you still get the room of the IR, but with less mix balance to the direct sound (which is also coming through IR with the colour button at 100%) - many ways to balance it. Also placement of instruments I find can drastically change the tone and colour of an instrument especially the stereo width.
