  • DP Users: VI and Custom Consoles

Any DP people out there linking the custom Console feature with VI? I'm still dinking around with this, but I've never used this feature before now. It seems to me that once a VI template is setup and linked wtih the DP console, it will eliminate a ton of screen clutter by putting all of your most commonly used faders, nobs, and controllers into one single tidy location without having to deal with the VI interface nearly as often.

I'll continue my experiments, but I'd be curious to know if or how others are simplifying their workflows with this feature.

  • JWL: I had forgotten all about this feature. It seems like you still need a good group of physical sliders- perhaps a JLC Fadermaster Pro to get the right feel? So isn't the custom console only necessary when you need to reroute the midi controllers? As an aside to this I have been using the V-Racks in DP with great success. It's good to have all your virtual instruments in a rack of their own. You cannot automate them in V-Racks, but you can switch back and forth from the V-Racks mixer to the regular mixer in a beat.

  • I'm still sorting out Consoles, but having ALL of your VI controls in one window seems to be the best benefit. Granted, the interface appears to be a tad crude, but at least it's 100% user programmable.

I have V-Racks going as well, but the Consoles puts even more features into one window. The V-Racks and Mixer tend to work best with audio processing and general mixing. Consoles helps to simplify the process of navigating and negotiating CC# data entry.

No, Consoles wouldn't eliminate the need for an external controller, but if you didn't have one, it would be as easy to manipulate as the mixer is-- without having to open every VI plugin window to the same result on an instance-by-instance basis....
