DId you try to rebuild the Vienna Insttruments Directory Manager? i.e. remove all files there and then put them back and then restart. should work.

Guy,
you probably never touched DM before, when installing all necessary steps
are taken automatically.
Now: Do you know where the VI Lib is installed? Spot the Folders
and just drag them onto DM (VI should _not_ run)
Then close DM and start VI or standalone.
Btw, the purpose of DM is:
1) Make library easly relocatable by the user
and
2) You can decrease loading time (the first one, eg in the morning)
by selecting only the instruments you will actually need for a project.
Note: the more instruments are registered in DM the longer it takes
(the first time) to load.
Thanks

golem,
Thanks very much for your reply. [:D]
You're right, I never used the DM other than to admire it.... I now have a better grasp of this, thanks! I'm presently doing as you said but just so I don't start to get nervous can anybody tell me how long approx it takes to put the entire VI folders in the DM?

This is the last time I make some technical change in the middle of a work!
It's not working at all! I did as golem said, also reloaded the software, each step takes ages... Just upgrading the software takes more than 1 hour before it's done! That can't be normal! Could it? it use to take 10 sec. this is very unlike that my gear behave like this...I don't know why VI keeps showing "empty presets"!
I keep getting this: MIDI device is busy or not functioning at given parameters.

Guy: Shut down and then restart, Run VI standalone. See what's there. 1st time beach ball spins for awhile. Just let it run. if you see no instruments you didn't use the Directory Manager properly. It's not hard to do. .Just remove all items from the list and then put them back in 1 at a time. restart again. Run VI, should work.

This is getting weirder by the minute! I've removed everything from the DM, i took one file at the time from my sampler dir and using"add folder" dumped it in the DM. After closing everything and turning it back on the only samples that appear in my VI is Appassionata strings! [:O]ops:
I see I have a total of 232GB of VI samples, isn't it suppose to be more than that?

Ok this is getting F discouraging!!!!!!!
I'm about to throw this stuff out the window!!!!
All I get is instruments in the matrix section, nothing in the patch assign section.
Wasted an entire day with this F problem!!! Yes I'm really pissed off.....
It can't be that complicated!
Bruce,
Thanks, yes I did what you said, no luck.

I'm developing a new theory about music software, goes something like this; reversed effort- the harder you try to make it work it won't- the less you care about the outcome- it works perfectly.
Look at the bright side- at least you've got your matrixes back which leads me to believe that it is all still there- it just isn't showing up for some strange reason unfathomable to us mere humans.

Well said and thanks Bruce you've been consistently helpful, much appreciated.
Just one thing though, because I tried both ways and not sure if I see the difference: When you enter the instruments into the DM to you first click custom folder and then just keep pressing add folder as you add each folder? I'm sure this must not be as fresh in your mind as when you just did it...
I think that was just appa instruments appearing in the matrix section, so no real hope. [:(]

ok Guy I opened up my DM to take a look- I always added the custom folder -after- adding the usual folders. WHen you open 'add folder' it takes you to a dialog for the search- where you choose the drive and click on the correct file(s) no problem right? Should take about 2-3 minutes to do then choose the custome folder and you're done. Close the DM. and then restart- very important the only time I had a problem with the DM not seeing stuff that I added was when I didn't do a cold restart. I guess I've been lucky so far. Maybe you need to reboot any external drive as well. Anyway things seem to work better in the mornings.

Hi Guy,
I've found the quickest way to put the folders in the directory manager is to just select them all in the finder then drag and drop - I've got 63 folders and the directory manager takes about 20-30 seconds to process them following the drag+drop. Do make sure the folders contain the actual .dat files rather than other folders or you won't see them in the VI menu.

Bruce and company
Just so you know how the story ended, it was my VI samples for whatever reasons that had been messed around with and possibly damaged. After downloading them again they had a different appearance in my drive folder. This has been a horrible 3 days for me and VSL. Things are just about to turn around [:D] (Big sigh!)
