  • Vienna Instruments Custom Data

    Hello VSIbees

I am not a new VSL/VSI user, but I did not ask that much questions here, because I found quite a lot of help in this forum during the past. So, many thanks to all of you cracks for the help I found so far.

One question occurred to me, to which I could not find a hint. I want to change the name of a recently saved user preset of VSI in the finder of Mac OS X. I found the "Vienna Instruments Custom Data" folder at the correct place in the finder, but I could not see any files in it. In the menue of the VSI plug-in all the user presets are listed correctly.

In the finder of Mac OS X I saw, that the folder is set to read only for all groups and user except for system. Is this setting ment to be so, or is it just because of somehow corrupted or wrong userrights?

Many thanks for any help regarding the default read / write setting of the Vienna Instruments Custom Data - folder.

    I am running VSI (V 1.06) & VSL on a G5 Quad / 8 GB Ram / with Protools HD under Logic 7.2 and on a G5 2x2Giga / 4 GB Ram / with Motu 828 Mk II and Logic 7.1.

Please allow me to mention as well, as found in various other threads, that the optimisation of loading and licency scanning time of VSI is still of desperate need, in order to use this fantastic product under professional conditions - especially, when you have to jump between different cues. I would rather like to spend the additional catering costs for waiting directors on some new upcoming products of VSL [;)]

To be honest, the advantage you have during arranging with VSI compared to VSL is atomized by the waiting time. This is contraproductive regarding a creative workflow.

But I am still positive, that VSL will come up with a solution - soon !?!

Thanks again and at least a big compliment for this outstanding library.

  • Hello again,

I just would like to ask, if someone could answer my question from above. It would be of great help, if someone could look at the Intruments Custom Data folder, open the information window (apple-i) and report the default setting regarding read & write.

    Thank you very much,

    Hans Steingen

  • The custom data folder (as I understand it) should be empty until you start saving your own pre-sets. You can make a new custom data folder anywhere and allocate it in the VSL directory manager. A default folder should have been created automatically during your initial installation (Library/application support/VSL). Custom Data folders should be read/write. Try reparing permissions with disc utility otherwise you can always make a new folder or manually change the permissions in the finder.

If you have saved a preset that you can see in the Vienna Instruments menu but it is not present in your custom data folder check using directory manager which folder (and location) Vienna Instruments is acually using for custom data.

  • Thank you for your answer, Julian.

I went through this buisiness allready without positiv result. But finally I solved the problem more or less by chance. I deleted the default custom data folder and started the standalone VSI without a new one defined. It crashed during startup and left a window on screen, saying, that it could not find the "Vienna Instrument custom Data" Folder, and that one should define it with the Directory Manager. Then I defined a new one and everything seems to be fine now.

Funny that I could not see any stored presets in the old folder, when I looked for them in the finder, allthough I was able to see them within the plug in. Before I deleted the folder I loaded and saved them in another folder, which worked. Finally I put everthing into the new custom data folder and now I can see them in the finder as well.

    Thanks again,
    Hans
