  • Please help. Cannot boot up on 3 GB switch

    Hi guys,

    I just got my 2x1gb sticks successfully installed on one of my slaves (I can see that they are successfully installed - they show up as NOW – 3072 MB on the opening flash screen.)

    I have tried the different options given in Mattias tutorial and all to now avail – I cannot get the machine to boot up on the 3BG option on startup.

    I have attached a copy of the this computer’s boot ini file to review.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 3GB" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn /3GB /userva=2500

    I am on Home edition (difference with Mattias' example). And also on this particular PC there is a command of:

    "NoExecute=OptIn"

    ---At the end of the line. Just for trial I have tried to remove that on the 3 GB line - but still not boot up.

    This boot ini file above shows the userva=2500 line. I have tried with and with out this command.

    On my next slave I will try this - BTW this next slave doesn’t have the ‘noexecute=optin’ line. It looks just like your example (except I am on HOME XP)

    While I wait for some input, I’ll try that machine.

  • Quick follow up guys,

    The next PC (Slave 4) is behaving in exactly the same way as described below for Slave 1 (after installing a total of 3 GB). I have now attached that boot ini file (which shows the /userva=2500.) Of course, I have tried with and without the ‘userva’ command.

    [boot loader]
    Timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 3GB" /fastdetect /3GB /userva=2500

    Specifically, when each PC boots up, as Mattias says, it gives the option of standard boot up or the ‘3GB’ boot up. In selecting the ‘3GB’ it cycles back around and doesn’t boot up (asking for which boot up scenario). I have then tried it a second time (which then it asks to start ‘Windows Normally’, etc. – but in fact never boots up.

    I then cycle back and select boot up on the normal boot up option – original way (all is fine there.)

    Again – ram seems installed correctly as right click on MY COMPUTER shows the 3 GB of Ram (as well as the splash bios page on startup.)

    Any ideas?

    Thank in advance.

    (Moderator - perhaps I should have put this into "VI" forum not "VSL" - along side of Mattias' thread. Would you be so kind and move this there. Thanks.)
