    Hi,

    I own VI Strings I and II and the Kontakt2 versions of Epic Horns....

    I have 7 gig of RAM in my main 2Ghz Dual G5, running Logic 7.2.

    I have loaded circa 1.8 gig of VI instances (spread across 16 VI's)

    Now when I load 1.9 gig of Kontakt2 Epic horns ..........(spread across 4 K2 instances)

    I get massive crackiing and cutting out....


    Interestingly, when I load EXS24 equivalents of Epic Horns there is NO problem....

    The reason I need the K2 versions to work is because K2 allows for "round robin" randomisations, which EXS24 will not do........

    ps: remember that VIs DO NOT access the memory available to Logic7.2.........so I SHOULD have access to at least 2.8 gig of RAM for Kontakt2 stuff......

    I also know that the problem is NOT Logic7.2 since the same behaviour is exhibited by Plogue Bidule on my slave G5 which is running VI and Kontakt2 instances........



    Maya any ideas?

    I'm not Maya, but the reason for the crackling is almost certainly that you can't have that much loaded. The machine must be going to virtual memory, meaning it's using the hard disk instead of RAM.

    The equivalents of Epic Horns must be smaller than the K2 horns.

    I figured it out.....


    I needed to put all of Kontakt2 stuff into one multi instance of K2 instead of using 5 K2 instances....now all is well [;)]

    Is the total still 3.7GB?

    If so, I'm off to the RAM shop. But I think it must be less.

    keep in mind I am also running circa 4 Space Designers with stereo 24bit IRs

    two of them have 4 second tails.

    This is on my week-end G5 which has 4 Gig RAM


    I get waaaayyyyy more with the 7 gig RAM G5 at work.

    Hm. Well, assuming 1.24 and 1.19GB are the physical memory readings from Activity Monitor (and 1.84/1.51 are virtual memory), that means 2.43GB. That's about right for a 4GB machine.

    I still suspect the total is going to be a little less than 3.25GB on your other machine.

    If I weren't so lazy, I'd pull RAM out of one of my machines and put it in the other to find out myself...

    The Space Designers are included in the Logic RAM, by the way.
