    Hi everyone,

    I was interested in buying the woodwinds I set for some audio work I will be doing and I had a couple of quick questions. Apologies if these have been posted before, I did a quick search but did not see any answers.

    1) The testing results showed sort of "worst case" results, where many very high numbers of voices were being played at once. For my work, I will be dealing primarily with synthizing performances of solo instruments. Real-time performance is not crucial for my work, just the final result. I have a laptop with mediocre specs I would like to work on -- 1.7Ghz Pentium M, 512MB of RAM, 60GB hard drive, and on-board audio. Will this be sufficient to generate performances of solo instruments (again, does not have to be in real time)?

    2) This is more of a curiousity, but is there information available on exactly how many samples are available for each instrument? I see the info for the entire symphonic cube, but I am just curious as to how many flute samples there are, for example, and how much space they require.

    Sorry for the bump, but I thought of one more question. Is the USB key required to run VI the same as the one used by Cubase SX 3? Can I put both licenses on the same key? Or would I need to purchase a separate key when I buy VI?

    Can quickly answer #1. Ram is always the bottleneck for me (all my PCs are 2 gig ram - but you will want to load up as much as possible.) Running 2.8 to 3.2 machines and never have CPU issues - only limits on Ram.

    These patches are so nice you will want your grubby little hands on as many of them as possible (on line) [:D]

    I would recommend at least 1GB Ram. (better are ofc ourse 2 GB) If your workflow allows finishing one instrument and than going to the next our sample load optimize function could be very helpful.
    It reduces the amount of used RAM to a minimum but enables you to alter tempo and velocity changes to a certain amount.

    The flute 1 consists of ca 22,000 samples, but I don't know the install size, because it is not possible to install instruments individually.

    You can use your SX3 key with our Vienna Instruments.

    Hi Rob and Herb,

    Thanks very much for your answers. A RAM upgrade wouldn't be a problem, as I've been overdue to upgrade anyway. I do have one final (?) question though. I saw in another thread that someone was asking whether it was possible to only install the standard samples and they were told that they needed to install the extended set as well. Just to clarify, does this mean that I need enough hard disk space to install all ~60GB of samples, regardless of how much I actually need for a particular piece?

    Yes. You need the samples on your harddrive. They are independant of how much you actually use for a peice of music. Here only ram matters.
