  • It's the Syncrosoft Key. It scanns for licenses and hangs. Try Opening up the the Syncrosoft Center before you launch Logic. Also, taking out the key and putting it back helps. Search the forum for threads about this, there may be other solutions. But it is unfortunately common to Logic.

  • Try downgrading to syncrosoft 4.9.6, I think. This cleared up my problem immediately. All of the versions 5 caused the problem for me.

  • Cool! Thanks for that Jay. However, I can't find where to get the earlier version. Any ideas? All I see is 5.x

  • jaimo, have you specified a custom folder? if not this causes strange behaviour sometimes. also i've heard it helps if you explicitely validate the AU from within logic. all LCC version 5.2.x work fine AFAIK. if the ViennaKey is attached to a USB hub (which is attached to a USB 1 port like built in the G4s) we have noticed communication problems - please try to plug in the key directly to a USB port on the computer then

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Matt,

I have sent you the link syncrosoft sent me when I wrote them about the problem. Good luck.

Yes, there is a specified folder for the Vienna Instruments.

I'll try placing the Vienna key in another USB port. As it stands, I have it plugged into the back of my Apple Cinema display, which has 2 extra ports there.

I would however, encourage designers of these keys, as well as the developers that employ them, to be realistic in how many of these dongles we end users have to deal with. There's only so many USB connections on a computer, then one must go to a hub. If the dongle can't function properly from a hub, or expander port, then how are we realistically supposed to use it?

  • Jaimo, you're right, how are we supposed to spend some precious time reading the forums, find and reinstal an older synchrosoft driver.
    Could'nt it just…work ?
Or at least get a link with some test results about "what is the best driver we should use, unplug or not the vienna key…?"
I'm having some really big load time right now, and that wasn't the case before.
Will try some tips suggested above.

BTW a big thanks to the VSL team for the Appassionata Violins

  • I'm resurrecting this thread, because the situation has gotten progressively worse here.

It often takes 3 or 4 "force quits" of Logic, to now load a Vienna Instrument. I have tried the Vienna key in multiple USB ports, as well as scanning the key with the License Control App first. Even if I scan with the license control FIRST, Logic still hangs up multiple times in a row.

As I'm typing this, I am booting Logic for the 5th time in a row, after getting hung up trying to load a Vienns VI.

O.K, make that 6 TIMES IN A ROW, and it's still getting hung up. I have paid 1500 dollars for a product I can't use.

This is so unacceptable. What can be done about this? I am NOT pleased...

  • I had the same problems ...I switches to a different usb hub and all is well.

    SvK

  • If you just wait, it finally loads. It doesn't matter that it says Logic "not responding". Just wait. And wait. I know it's ridiculous, but it was almost a half hour one day...then the whole rest of the day it's fine, starts right up.

The whole license thing is terrible.

They need iLOK. No problems like this.

  • A newer version of the Syncrosoft License Control Center, where the key recognition problems should be solved finally will be online soon.
To my experience version 4.9.6.0 does not work any better than 5.0.2.4.

Besides trying to un- and replug the key several times I´d suggest to update the Directory Manager manually too. To do so, open the application activity monitor from applications/utilities, if opened select the processes <VSL-server> and <vsldaemon> and choose <quit process> for each of them.

After doing so, open the Vienna Instruments Directory Manager, remove all folders and add them again manually. Start the LCC before you start Logic to make sure that the key is recognized properly.
