  • editing VSL winds

    Hi folks,

I have question that I am wondering if anyone here can answer. The clarinet long notes in VSL have a very slow and very sloped attack which is difficult to use if the tempo is too fast (the only other articulation is the staccato notes which are far to aggressive). The real clarinet is quite capable of playing a faster attack for sustained notes than the VSL samples. I have played with individual wave files in my audio editor and managed to reshape the attack so it sounds much shorter and very good.

I want to build an instrument using edited notes with that kind of attack, do I have to edit each note individually and then build the instrument from scratch or is there a simpler way that I don't know about? Is there any way to reshape wave envelopes in giga editor?

    Thanks,
    Mike

Thanks for the info! I don't know if it will be part of the free upgrade DVD for first edition users. I'm afraid I'm going to have to wait a while to do the full upgrade to the pro edition. The leader of my country has been focusing so much on taking over the world that he seems to have been neglecting our economy [[;)]]

Anyone know if this articulation will be part of that DVD? I'd love to avoid the painstaking qwork if someone is doing it for me!

    Thanks again,
    Mike

  • I hope the update DVD has clarinet portato. I am very curious to know what the disc will contain. I am getting the Pro Edition, so of course I will have all of the new stuff, and additonal artiulations.

  • Hello Mike,

maybe the LIGHT DYNAMIC gigfile works for you.
Try out the "dyn" mapping, here you can switch between crescendo and diminuendo using the modwheel. The LIGHT DYNAMICS only have a subtle volume change, and I think that the "dim" samples have a faster attack (can't proof it at the moment)

If you own the Performance set you can also check out the REPETITIONS SLOW. Here you have a short starting note on the first keyswitch, and on the second keyswitch one longer repetition on the same key.
The third keyswitch triggers the same long note with a sample-start offset. So the attack is smoother.

The Pro Edition will offer a lot more single notes articulations.
Short and medium short portatos (2 variations), and medium long notes with different attacks.

An overview about the Pro articulation you can find in our articulation list in our "Products and Shop" area.

    Herb,

Thank you so much for your reply. As you can tell we are all dying to find out what will be on the upgrade DVD! I'm happy to hear you'll be posting the contents next week. I'm working on some stuff that needs to be released before Christmas this year, do you think the DVD will be available in October?

    Thanks Again,

    Mike
