  • inconsistant sounds with legato/portamento w/chamber strings

hi i'm having a couple problems with chamber strings. one is that when going in between certain notes in legato performance, i get a lack of smoothness. like one note will kind of jump out and not sound connected. also it seems that portamento is not looped or is not as long of a sample as the legato samples. so if i hold a really long note in portamento mode it will trail off and when i switch back to legato mode it will sound disconnected. Also, there is a different between dynamics between legto and portamento at the same velocity. anybody running into these problems? THANKS!!

btw. i'm using Cubase with MIDI Patchbay and RAX on a G5 dual 1.8 with 2 gigs of RAM.

Are you using velocity xfade? If not, then I advise you to do so. Regarding the portamento, you could put the normal sustain in the lower cell and cell xfade during the note if you "run out".

  • yes i am using velocity x-fade. i'll try the x-fade cell. will that still allow smooth transition to the next note? thanks,

Yes, if you have placed a legato instrument in the 2nd cell.

  • portamento and legato samples don't seem to sound very much the same in many cases. with the celli e.g. the performance portamento sounds much more open than the performance legato, which annoys the phrases sometimes when switched between them.. pity.
