    I'm following Beat Kauffman's fantastic tutorial. In Long Notes, he named the strings that he chose.
    VI-14_mV_sus > Violins 1
    VI-14_mV_sus > Violins 2
    VA-10_mV_sus > Violas >
    VC-8_pz-1 > Cellos
    To find them, in Vienna Orchestra, I opened
    Strings Presets / 21 Violins Orchestra / VI-14 VSL Preset Level 1 / (at this point, while still in PERFORM, on the left are Perf Legato, Ariculationn Combi, and Per Repititions)
    I hit Matrix to look for VI-14_mv_sus. I cannot see it anywhere.
    In Matix, I open up Matrix Level 2 A-Advanced and hit 01 VI-14 Perf Universal to look elsewhere. Where am I going wrong?

    Thank you for the compliment (tutorials)

    "Unfortunately" my tutorials are not written for the use with VI. The previous versions of VI (VSL-ProEdition/Horizon-Series) offer every single articulation. So VI-14_mV_sus means Violins (14) Long Notes sustained with vibrato. If you want to play this sample type choose in the new VI: Matrix / L1 VI-14 Articulation Combi > there you will find the patch VI-14_sus_Vib.
    If you only want to load this long sus notes choose a Matrix-line - then choose at the "Selector Bar" the function page "Patch assign". Then go to the "Violins-14" and choose there "SHORT AND LONG NOTES" ...
    Hope that helps.

    And more:
    The workflow with the VI is much more comfortable than with HALion or other sample-players. So it could be that it not make sense to follow step by step the tutorial in every part with the new VI...


    I will make a remark in my tutorials about this fact.

    I'm a trained classical violinist and jazz violinist, and so impressed with your work and tutorials. I'm not having great success mastering VI Orch 1 and 2, but I'm slowly getting it. I just don't have much time. I'm closer with your latest answer to choosing my initial sounds, and then I can see how I can get much greater sounds if I work more on it. But for now, I just need a solid symphony violin section that can vibrate at my wil - I need a controller or some manner in which to vibrate at my will with great freedom. Using "Orchestra Strings - Combi" seems to be a good preset, but I don't see an articulation to increase vibrator at my will, or a controller set up to do so. Thanks again. Noel Webb

    You can't alter the vibrato; that was recorded with the samples. However, what you can do (with section instruments) is put the non vibrato patch in the top cell, the vibrato patch in the bottom cell and xfade between them. However, the most vibrato that you're going to get is that of the vibrato patch.

    Got it. Thanks. I kinda figured that, but now I know to use the x/fade instead of just hitting a control move. Now I'm thinking that is a neat trick that allows the subtlees that I heard on your sounds - using the x/fade. It really is a shame about the vibrato. When I play a wind instrument using Logic's samples, I can make vibrator with the modulator wheel. it's crucial to apply the personalness to the expression. With all the wonderful aspects of Orch. 1 and 2, I'd think that would be a part of it.

    Separate question - is there another product by Vienna that has larger string section preset sounds in it?

    OK, well to answer both your points.

    1) Thinking about it logically there is no way that a violin section vibrato could be put on afterwards (with a controller) because none of the players will be vibrating at the same speed or amplitude, starting at the same time etc. If this was done (you can try it with the non vibrato patches and pitch wheel) it would sound very false. Remember, the wind instruments that you are applying vibrato to are solo instruments.

    2) If you are asking for a larger string preset then the answer is no, but you could build one yourself and save it as an instrument. If you are asking for a larger "section" for each instrument, then the answer is no, but there is a series of larger violin section matrices and patches in the works that will be available for Pro Edition upgraders.

    You said larger matrices will be avialable in Pro Upgrade. Can you tell me exactly where I should continue to look on your site (as I log in) to make sure I get this upgrade. (I use Orch 1 and 2)

    I think that you'll find that the "new" library is initially for previous users and will be a free download, but it has been stated that this may eventually be extended to become another collection (or sorts) and be available for purchase.
