Vienna Instruments Software v. 1.05 installation problem

After the release of VI version 1.05 XP, I uninstalled v. 1.03 and afterwards I installed the software update.
At the end of the installation process I got the following error message:
“The procedure entry point GetProcessId could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll”.
What does it mean?
Anybody else encountered this problem?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Of course, it’s not possible to run the program and I was obliged to uninstall v. 1.05 and to revert to v. 1.03.

I don´t really know what that means, sorry, but did you try the installation process a second time? Just to see if that was a random mistake.

ioleo, this possibly means you are not running windowsXP - the function GetProcessID does not exist in former windows versions.
in case this is not the reason, please tell us if and which service packs are installed on the machine

ioleo - sorry, i forgot to notify you ... we did the same: installed XP SP1, installed 1.03, uninstalled 1.03, installed 1.05 ... nothing shows up.

i'd recommend to update to SP2 and retry installation of 1.05, if this doesn't make the error message disappear i'ts highly probable your system is corrupt and you need to re-install windows from scratch.

ps: i'd strictly recommend to setup any new system with older windows versions (withous servicepack or with SP1) behind a router or offline, otherwise if you work with a public IP address you'd might get a victim of worms within seconds ...
to be on the safe side you can download the complete installation package for SP2 (266 MB) before and install it offline

Christian, I followed your suggestions and I tried:
1) to install 1.05 on two other PCs – each one with XP SP 1 – and nothing showed up: VI 1.05 – and now VI 1.06 – works absolutely fine there: so, it’s not a problem with SP 1;
2) to un-install and then re-install Windows XP SP 1 from scratch on the first PC: then I installed VI 1.05 – and afterwards VI 1.06 – and I got each time the same message (“The procedure entry point GetProcessId could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll”): so, it’s not a problem of system corrupted.
Any thoughts on this?

since there is no method to *uninstall windows* i'd need some clarification, did you
- uninstall the servicepack (and re-install)?
- installed windows from CD, then which method (repair, upgrade, new install, same partition, formatted partition before)?

it seems to me you don't have the original MS-file (kernel32.dll) on your computer ...

when I wrote “un-install and then re-install Windows XP SP 1 from scratch” I meant that I formatted the partition and then restored a fresh image of the OS just installed.
But what you mean when you:
1)ask if there are any other applications/tools installed like synchronizing software”: what are synchronizing software?
2)say “it seems to me you don't have the original MS-file (kernel32.dll) on your computer” ?

leo, google mentions LapLink or PCSynk as source for such errors(any USB communication cables or USB network adapters installed?) someone from our team also suspects an older video application or device as possible reason.

not original file - to dig a little bit deeper: a dynamic link library (.dll, and kernel32.dll is a most important one) has entry points (certain places within the dll where the code of a certain procedure starts). if another process now cannot find such an entry point this means it is not there (or on a different location), so i suspect the kernel32.dll to be not the original one, otherwise the entry points should be there where they are expected.

just to be clear: this is _not_ a 64-bit XP version (some dell machines come with such a version) - no?

any hints what might be the calling process (which finally triggers the error), might be displayed in the title bar of the error message?

I've exactly the same problem with the VI 1.06 version (and the same error : “The procedure entry point GetProcessId could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll”). I've desinstalled the version and reinstalled the 1.00 version. It's OK now. What happen's with this version (and the 1.05 also I've seen). Thank's to answer cm.

I get the same error message when I try to install the latest version. I'd lilke to try one of the older versions of the player. When can I find 1.03?

I have two computers and the software would not install on either system.

I have the key.

I am running windows 2000. Service pack four.
