  • So.....if I were to have a dedicated machine (let's say a Mac Minii) for just strings (nothing else) would I be able to have all of my aticulations available to me on that machine using the new VI?

My plan is to ditch my 4 PC's and use 4 Mac Mini's (each with their own group (Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, etc) I just don't want to go down this road only to find out that I can't load up an entire section on one machine.

    Thanks!

  • rpmusic..

To run pretty much ALL string articulations, and dynamics, etc takes about 6.8 gig OF RAM

    I run 2 G5 towers

    1) All Violins / Violas ( this one also runs all my Epic Horns / Percusiion / Some winds on Kontakt / Exs24....this computer has 7 Gig RAM

    2) All Celli / Basses....this computer has 4 Gig RAM

And I'm going to add 2 More Towers for another 8 Gig of Access to VIS [;)]

However, One Instrument per MacMini-Intel sounds intriguing.....MAYA any chance of a stress-test on a MAC-Mini with 2 gig RAM [;)]

  • It would be so cute:

5 little IntelMacMinis....stacked one atop the other...with little stickers on them....saying,

    Horns, Flutes, Percussion......etc [;)]

It's funny how we have come full-circle....We are basically back to a full room of EMULATORS 4s (Instead we are chaining computers together)

    hahahaha

  • Wow! All this info is great! Thanks all! I'll be really interested to see what the results of the Mini will be! If these little guys would work, what a great econonmical way to create a full set up!!! Please keep us posted!!!

Ah, ya gotta love technology!....when it works!!! [:D]

  • Hi all,

are there any new information about MacMini Speed Test Results? I'm planning to redesign my studiosetup and I consider MacMinis as slaves for my G5.

I'm not sure what Audio-Interface I should, because the built-in is a bit lousy...

  • Hi All

I'm keen to know how much you can drive a Intel Mac Mini too. Especially one running Windows XP! My current plan is to have 3 Mac Mini's slaved off my main SX DAW each with 2GB of RAM.

The other benefit I've been testing of this approach is using Windows Hibernate, so I can load up a Mac Mini with my typical project settings, hibernate it and get "instant on" (well 30s) with access to all the preloaded VIs. No more waiting to load patches. This works well on the 512MB mac I have and I've just ordered 2GB so we'll wait and see.

    Cheers

  • Guys, how would this work?

Say I have Logic on my G5. Now I want to add Mac minis.

What program is on the Mac Mini? You mean VI Standalone? That wouldn't help much, right? So how would you do this?

And what about cards/audio out of the MINI machines and back into the G5....confused...

    Thanks
    Tom

  • Tom, being a bit of a WinXP boy (rather than a Mac one), i'm going to be running the MacMinis in Windows XP with VStack and MOL to link them together.

    Cheers
