How to construct the elusive "John Barry" VI matrix.....

Here is what I have done with great results:

The key is to place the legato Violins (03 VI-14 perf-leagato_sul) on the PARALLEL cell! Make sure it DOES NOT sustain......You are using this layer for legato connections only.....In "Edit Cell" set the envelope #'s to Attk-0, Dec-90, Sus-0, Rel-50

    Now here is the KEY!

3 vertical cells (in additoion to above mentioned parallel)

    1:1...09 VI-14 pfp_Vib_4s
    2:1...08 VI-14 pfp_Vib_2s
    3:1...02 VI-14_dyn-me_Vib_3s

Now set V-Span to CC1 (Mod wheel) with values 20% and 87%........at zero you now hear the 4s PFP, in the middle you here the 2s pfp, at the top the strong Decrecs finishing note........get it

Now try playing "Out of Africa" hi string line.......For the the first note, have Mod Wheel down at 0, on second note have mod wheel at 127 (full....but remember to have A/B select on B0-decresc)

Basically what I am doing is swelling (with PFPs) the first note, and DECRSCing the 2nd note, swelling the 3dnote, DECRESCing the 4th.......BUT I still have my legato joinings from the paralell layer...

It sounds complicated but it really worx great....

    PS:
for the 8th note parts leave wheel at 127 (in decrecs B0)

    hope this helps

  • Sorry, I don't know what FXB is. Will this work for Macs?

  • Yup,

It worked for me, and as SVK explained on the original thread he is Mac- based also.

The only thing I'm confused about is that if memory serves me right the 64 VSL demo VI files for Mac were called 'aupreset'? Not looking a gift horse in the mouth here but I wonder why both work - and they do.

The John Barry preset seems quite good. I hope it is only the beginning of many more presets that VI users share.

(And no, I don't really know what .fxb stands for.)

  • Oh well...

It downloads it but I can't open the file...!

  • Where did you put it?

  • Do you have some demo (mp3) of your setup ? [[;)]]

  • guys, it's simple

just download it and put it in your custom preset file, and voila!

being the lazy swine i am, with not much spare time, i would love it if people uploaded all their presets somewhere, so we can all share. [:D]

...I hope I'm not being unintentionally stupid ( [:O]ops: ) but if you don't have Vienna Instruments is there any possibility of playing the file at all?

  • No - no way [:)]

  • Thanks any mp3 exemple would be great !

  • Hi Guys

Any Mac owners out there tell me how to load the .fxp file in my VI. Not having much luck so far.

    Thanks

When you set up VI, you set up a folder for presets. If you have "lost" it, do this:
Open the VI standalone. Save a preset. It should select the default folder you originally set.

Now, put any additional .fxp files in here. You can also make sub-folders.

These new presets will appear in the VI browser. Same kind of thing for Matrix presets....

    Regards - Colin

  • Thanks Colin I'll give it a try
