let's check some basics first .... you run windowsXP on your PCs and your memory settings are standard. how many GB ram do you have per machine btw?
regarding installation: all problems so far turned up to be the result of unexpected interaction with firewalls and/or anti virus applications.
ok, two exceptions: a SONY DDU1615 DVD-ROM in a DELL desktop (doesn't read even the first DVD - the SONY works fine in other computers and DELLs with other drives too) and one DVD with a significant scratch on its surface.
you could help us to reproduce this issue listing your installed programs (especiall those *unusual* for DAWs)

Hello,
XP, home edition, 2Gb ram.
Installed: Gigastudio 3, Performance tool (Ha,ha..), RME Treiber, Nomadfctory Bluetubes Plugs, V-Stack (Ha), Forte (Ha), Midi over lan.
No Anivirus, no Internetsecurity, nothing else.

With 2GB Ram you should be able to load up to 25.000 samples which is the double to triple amount of samples than you could load in Gigastudio.

of couse. But they won´t play longer then 10 minutes until it crashes or has
dopouts or problems in finding and loading samples.
I don´t have a ram problem. I have a: get it working at all problem.
I´m not pushing it to the limits, max. load is 900Mb-1.1 Gb.(700-500mb free).
But I need double the ram for 1st. and 2nd Strings !!

this is something what usually points to a configuration problem of the machine ... are there by chance any other *tweaks* especially regarding memory applied to the system? (to have a pagefile or not should make no difference - we have virtual memory turned off on most computers with 2GB RAM or more)

The Vienna Instruments do not support shared memory at the moment.
So if you load the same patches into different instances you are adding new samples to RAM.
At the moment we are testing an update here, which will offer shared memory.

btw, searching through our support emails i've found you also had troubles to extract the files from the pro edition (installation stopped with a CRC error) - the solution was to copy the files to the harddisk and install from there (what has been successfull). such errors turned up from time to time using W98 (related to the method W98 reads files from DVD/CD).
have you tried this procedure also for the ViennaInstruments installation?

and now another thing comes into my mind: of course all this _can_ be also the result of bad or incompatible memory modules ... especially certified frequencies and timing should meet the specs of the mainboard.

Have you tried this?

2. If you like you can check your current settings by pressing the “Get current settings” button.
3. Run the utility and press the button “Revert to default settings”.
4. Reboot the machine.


I'm betting this will improve your situation.

1.Memory Modules are ok. (Workin with Gigastudio3, loaded untill limit, is fine ).Maybe it´s "Forte" that crashes. Which buffersize, (Rme digi9652,P4 2.8Gh,2Gb, XP with service pack1-because of board and Gigastudio)? Any special things with forte ? What host ist the best for VI (I cant have 4xCubase.....)
2.Still can´t install Woodwinds I. Copied the files onto Mac (this drive reads everything so far), started installer on PC and installed (network) untill same point.....as if the bad file were copied exactly.

bernhard, i have to admit to be kind of clueless regarding this strange phaenomen - a file is not *somehow* bad, it is bad or not. also it is possible a few DVDs have quality problems (eg. scratches), but highly improbable they have it at the same spot on the DVD.

i'm still thinking we have to search for a not so obvious reason for this behaviour - sounds like something gets *filled up* until a certain level and then refuses. please keep in mind memory is used a little bit over 50% only with gigastudio, so a problem *behind this border* would not have shown up so far. can't guarantee for forte of course, but it has been tested here and has shown to be stable.

are you saying you _can_ copy the files to harddrive and if you run the installer from there the same thing happens? how does your memory and CPU behave during the installation and when the problem occures?

Just for info.
You can install the library on any computer and after installing you can movie/copy the installed sample datas where ever you want.
So you could try to install on your MAC and than copying the datas to any of your windows PCs.

I spend this day again in testing.
I don´t have time to spend another week in testing, why
1.Installer on mac does not work and therefore i cant install and copy.
2.My PCs cannot read Your DVDs
3.VI or Forte or whatever crashes
Fact is: I used Pro edition for the last years with Gigastudio 3 and had never problems. And believe me: All You can buy is also installed and used. I run 4Gigas with 65%load(and sometimes Bösendorfer parallel on the same PC!!) and a Mac, pushed to limit with Pro Edition and a lot of other stuff.
For me there is no reason to switch to a (maybe only for me) not working Setup. I´m not a Betatester, I have to work. As soon as You have a easy to install and working Version, I´ll be the first to buy it. In the meantime i give it back, because it´s to much money to wait untill...

You've used the library-installer on the DVDs for the OSX installation?

Yes, I used Your and synchrosoft´s new Insallers. It does not open itself. Nothing happens.
I tryed all things, forum users told me: Giga reset, special tools, etc.

I know, but they have a lot to do for "Frankfurter Musikmesse", like You.
I have my "Special Question guy" at Musicshop for many years, but he didn´t have time jet to check everything in detail. VI is to new.
My ploblem is: I have to start working on a moviescore in 1 week and I have to get used to a new setup to get my mind free for composing. I cannot change during work.

For the record, I use Forte on a PC, and use VI on a MAC with OSX, and the installations went fine with the exception of the woodwinds on the Mac. I then tried reinstalling the woodwinds again and it worked fine.

I have had no crashes with Forte on a P4 3.2 with 2g memory.

No crashes on a G5 Dual 2 gig with 2.5 gig.
