  • Can't attain official VSL load times

    Hi,

I have the same computer as VSL used to speed test Vienna Instrument but with a little more RAM and a faster hard drive. However the first load time of an empty VI (after Logic is fully booted and running) I have for the AU plug-in is 2'30" rather than the 1 minute VSL achieve.

Any ideas as to the discrepancy and hints to achieve comparable a comparable first instance load time would be welcome. all other aspects of opperation are fine - 2nd loads just 3" for instance.

I've done the usual repair permissions and the directory manager thing.

The version of VI is 1.04 OS is OSX 10.4.5 and DAW is Logic 7,2

    Thanks

    Julian

    "Version 1.04
    Both platforms:
    - Patch loading optimization
    - Volume and pitch knobs reveal their numeric value in "magic eye"
    - Drag and drop folders onto Directory Manager - does recursion as well
    - Package now also includes Library Installer [provision for future MacTel version]

    Version 1.03
    PC:
    - Maintenance
    - Speed fix
    OS X:
    - Load time improvement: first time 1 min (still), subsequent starts approx. 6-10 sec.
    - .fxp and .aupreset support for preset loading"

  • Hi Julian,
my experience is exactly the same as yours:
about 2´30" for the first instance, about 3" for the next one.

    My configuration is:
    Logic 7.1.1, G5 DP2.5 GHz, 4.5 GB Ram, Harddisk (still...) via FW800
    (im using VI version 1.04)

    Greets:
    HTF

  • Here are my results :

    OSX 10.4.5
    Logic 7.2
    Dual PPC 2.3
    4.5 RAM

    LCC 5.0.0.1
    VI 1.04

    Starting Logic: 16 sec
    <cold start> VI: 30 sec
    opening GUI : 1,5 sec
    new instances: 4-5 sec
This is true for empty VI's with lib Chamber and Orch Strings linked)

The more Instruments you assign in DirManager the longer it takes.
So with Woodwinds I and Solo Strings added this timing figure runs up to 1 minute

(I can hardly imagine that you have more than that ) [:)]

  • Christian,

I have the first part of the Symphonic Cube: so Solo Strings, Orchestral Strings 1+2, Chamber Strings and Woodwinds 1.

But is does take 2':30" Not sure what instruments HTP has but he/she has similar results.

    What to do?!

    Thanks

    Julian

    Hi Julian and Christian,
i also use the whole first part of the Symphonic Cube i.e. those five libs!

    Best:
    HTF

  • Made now a new loading test:

Opening a logic song (with logic already open, i.e. no programm start)
that contains one instance of VI, a viola patch with 789mb Ram.

    Opening time is: 4´20"

Opening the same song without any VIs takes about 15".

is it relevant if one is using extended content or not?

The largest ever VSL Pro Edition arrangement I ever created (with Logic maxed out on it's RAM and including about 85 EXS instances) takes 4'17" to load the complete song. (and at the time I thought this was slow!)

So there appears, at least for now, to be some sort of road block on the load time - lets hope the VSL magicians wave their wands!

Mind you my first sampler an S1000 took this long to load 8MB from floppies...

Oh, man-- Julian!! After what we've all been through with load times, the mere mention of the word "floppies" nearly caused my lunch to "deviate from its intended course". It puts everything into perspective, doesn't it? [:)]

I'm using Digital Performer, and load times with VI 1.04 are down to less than a minute. I also downgraded Syncrosoft's bundle to 4.9.x.x which helps greatly. I've yet to do a Logic Test... but will post results as soon as possible.
