    drew, i'd say primary we are the wrong address to ask. as far as i understood receptor depends on syncrosoft supporting their (linux-)system in the future, so currently we can't comment on this.

    Rumour has it that Muse and Syncrosoft are already in discussions about it. I seem to remember having a discussion about it all with Ted Rackley on the Nuendo forum. Contact Muse and they should be able to help you.
    However, I think that currently it will be most useful for live work, as I can't see any advantages over using a PC and FX-Teleport.

    Okay-- more than a year has passed, and I've been snooping around for updates on this issue.

    Has anyone heard any news on Syncrosoft and Receptor?

    I'd say don't bother. It is old technology, soon to be superseded by Vista (even XP64) and Leopard, with more than the meagre 2GB RAM that Receptor offers. It will die a death unless they completely update it. Of course this will be totally useless to people who have already bought the doorstops. [:D]

    yeah-- for the cost, the ram and load limits, it still puts more than 50% load on the CPU. There are huge problems with NI stuff, from what I understand-- and yet I can't sort out why soundsonline.com are trying to pass this off a serious orchestrator's pacakge with 4 of these units and the EWQLSO/SC/Bosendorfer software for $10k+. Kore doesn't work on it, from what I hear, and none of the Kontakt/Kompakt/Intakt stuff is fully functional-- all this with support for VST only.

    Moreover, Receptor doesn't get along with Syncrosoft!!

    Their ethernet protocol UniWire doesn't seem to be fully functional either, and updates are slow coming, according to their users' forum.

    All this for $3k per unit-- sounds like a great idea gone to waste so far. This thing should be the talk of the town amongst VI users.

    i personally found their concept convincing (except the 2GB limit of course) and IIRC the system is based on some LINUX-flavour, which on one hand should have no problem with large memory access but on the other hand would need a special LCC version (shouldn't be too far from the OS X version though ... but who knows)

    I found the whole thing tremendously compelling, and took it more seriously recently as I endeavored to expand my VI playback options. What it does well, it does VERY well. But there seems to be no middle ground. The caveats are severe, and considering that it was introduced the same time VSL Standard Edition appeared, I am quite surprised and let down to find it still limited in some areas and dysfunctional in others after all this time.

    It is a great idea that either has a painfully slow gestation period, or it's dying on the vine.
