  • Sample and Cell odd behavior?

    Two examples:
    1) Using 'Vl-14-sus-Vib-fA_auto', I find a very audible recurring click (in 2-3 second cycles) where it seems that the sample is looped. Is this supposed to be there, or am I experiencing something unusual or unintended? I would like to use this patch, but the loop clicks necessitate not using this patch at all.

    2) 'Vl-14-sus-Vib-fA' with the X-fade slider offers some interesting behaviors as well. While holding a single note and moving the x-fade slider, the 'crescendo' is smooth from 0 to 78 or so. Then, there is a clear drop off in the sound (from f to sub mp).

    On other occasions, the cescendo is smooth from 0 to 87, at which point the note stops playing completely while the keyboard note is still depressed.

    At times, the loudest part of the sample stops suddenly and the softest sample continues playing indefinitely.

    And finally, when the fader is *higher* than 0 before the note sounds, the crescendo is smooth all the way up to 100 where it cuts off abruptly.

    There are other patches as well which do unexpected things, but I've not yet compiled a complete list of questionable behaviors just yet.

    Again, I'm not 100% sure if what I'm experiencing is intended or if it's a malfunction on my system. If it is intended, I could use much more information on the scope for each x-fade setting, how they are built and are intended to be controlled. This is not always as simple as it appears on the surface.

    What's happening is that my x-fade and expression data are requiring some *very strange* curves to be drawn into my sequencer to avoid any unexpected abrupt changes in dynamic levels and timbre. It's become so unpredicatble that it gets very time consuming to guess how to reshape these curves in an effort to circumnavigate these surprises in performance. I confess that I'm not always successful because I'm having to redraw data that works one moment but does not work the same way in the next moment.

    Any suggestions? Help? Advice?

    the fA (fast attack) versions are not looped, they are primary thought for faster movements where you need faster attacks.
    The fA-auto patch triggers a normal looped sustain as starting note, and when you perform a second note (legato played) the fA nonlooped version is triggered.

    Further the loudest velocity layer of the sustains is much shorter (4 to 5 sec.) than the lower velocities (20 sec), so if you crossfade from p to forte after 5 seconds you will crossfade into silence and vice versa. Here you get these jumps you described.

    So these fA-attack patches are not usefull for slow movements.
    You have the choice between the normal sustains (all looped) and of course the performance legato patches.

    Thanks so much for the info. It really does clear things up.

    I do love the sound of the fA samples with Vibrato, though. They will come in handy in slow movements using faster notes, but I'll look for 'sA' patches (for lack of a better expression).
