  • Hi Diddyland,

the orchestral strings patches and matrix files are combined mappings of violins, violas, cellos and basses. Orchestral strings I only contain violins and violas. So of if you want to work with this patches you have to install Orchestral Strings II also, where the VI could find the sample database for basses and cellos.
All violins and viola patches and matrixfiles should work properly.

  • Thanks for the quick reply. So that is a preset that requires both libraries. fine.

However I still have problems with the Violin Preset

If you select Preset - VI-14 VSL Preset Level

You have 2 matrices, with modulation selecting between them, If you push the mod wheel up, it selects the matrix :
    L1 - VI-15 Perf-Legato Speed + Porta.

Play slowly and nothing comes out, its referencing a patch called
03-VI-14_perf porta. I looked for this and couldnt find it.

    I replaced this with
04-VI-14_perf porta and it worked of course.

Is this a matrix that has been assigned a missing patch ??

It wouldn't matter, it's just that when you open and install software and 2 of the presets dont work as you would expect, its a bit confusing.

I shall carry on and make my own matrices.

  • It's no missing patch, it's the only matrix which is referring to a mislabeled patch: 03-VI-14_perf porta instead of 04-VI-14_perf porta
Sorry about that mapping mistake. You already have found the fix, exchanging it with the correct labeled patch.

  • Hi Herb - is this (the incorrect labelling) something that will be fixed in the next update of the VI or can we change the setting ourselves (permanently).

    Cheers

    Tim

  • To make a permanent fix now, you have to save this matrix (after exchanging the portamento patch) as a custom matrixfile.
Same with the Level 1 preset file. (exchanging the matrixfile with the new custom matrixfile)

  • I'm sorry Herb, I'm a little confused.
You said that he found the only mapping error and then you said "Same with the Level 1 preset file." Are there two presets with the 03 instr. called out?

Also, when you say "exchanging the matrixfile with the new custom matrixfile" do you mean that you can save the custom file over the factory preset? Or do you mean just use the custom file instead?

  • Thanks for this info Herb.
Can you perhaps set up an area on the forums (sticky topic) or elsewhere which lists such problems and fixes? I almost missed this topic and I'm sure it will move onto page 2 and beyond where folks will not see it.

    Thanks and regards - Colin

  • You can't save over the factory files, therefor you need to save a custom file. (In your Custom folders directory which you can setup/choose with the Directory Manager tool) If you save your matrixfiles to any other location it won't be displayed in the matrix browser of the VI.

The mapping error in this case is the matrix file, and presets are combinations of different matrixfiles
So any preset file which uses this matrixfile have to be updated with the new corrected matrixfile, in this case the VI-14 VSL Preset Level 1

  • The patch error should be featured in a sticky, I agree.

Herb would you mind if we make some music instead of spending hours to read the forums just to know how to resolve the problems ?
Could you (or somebody else) make a list of workaroung or tips for the new VI users ?

Sorry but I'm tired of loosing some crutial time doing that. i'm aware that this is verison 1.0 and that lot of fixes and ahencement are going to be done, but having ordered the complete VI package I'm desapointed of what's going on…(installation, loading time, crashes, lack of information…) [8-)]
