  • Is This Possible With VI?

Sometimes I find the descrecendos for some instruments, like violins and celli, are not long enough. So is it possible to crossfade from a sustain to a decrescendo while still holding the note down? I can't figure out how to do it without restriking the note to get the new articulation (the decrescendo).

    Thanks
    Tom

  • Hi Tom,

did you check if Velocity Xfade does the trick for you? I find it very useful, especially for dynamic movements, and of course endings. You can also assign expression to another fader or pedal additionally, this way you can control the dynamics in two ways.

I´m thinking about other solutions, apart from opening another VI...

The thing is Paul, I do use and enjoy the crossfade dynamics, but as you know there is a big difference between fading the note to the lowest velocity layer at the end of a song, let's say, and actually using one of the descresendos, where the player actually lifts off the note at the end. I find those moments allow VSL to make your music ultra realistic, rather than just fading a note out completely. So I'm just wondering how much of a technical challenge it would be to allow users to crossfade over to a real "ending" from a long sustain...

    Thanks!

  • Hi Tom,

I totally understand your point. Right now the only thing I can think of is to open a scecond VI just for that purpose,

I´m sure we will find a way to incorporate that in upcoming versions.

BTW: I like the words "ultra realistic".... sounds so realistic [:)]
