    Hi,

please have a look at this thread:

    http://community.vsl.co.at/viewtopic.php?t=7537

Thanks for your patience, we are happy that everything seems to work fine and scheduled and hope with you that it will stay that way.

From another thread 7th February 2006:

    Hi,

we are currently finishing the Audio Unit version of the Vienna Instruments, that also includes a lot of testing. As soon as we are ready and content with the Mac Audio Unit version, there will be more detailed descriptions, test results, demos, mixes, videos...

    Best, Paul

    Hi Paul,

This worries me, how can everything have gone off for DVD pressing if it's still being tested/finished. I've got a cube on order for use with Logic as an AU.

Please put my mind at rest!!

    Thanks

    Julian

  • Hmmm! About 2 months later than scheduled...That's some wait!

Did I understand we will have the same deal when it's time to pay VSL? [:D]

    Kidding...

  • 2 months? They said the first would ship in Janurary, and unless something has gone wrong they wil ship in feburary... VSL should have them tommorow.

I was in my bed yesterday unable to sleep - and I almost considered calling VSL today to ask if I could pick up my copy at thier office if I took a one day trip to Vienna.... talk about looking forward to something [:D]

I decided against it, and figured t was better to get some work done hehe

  • Hi Paul,

Can you give us an update on those of who paid for the new VI in Dec. Any progress report. GS still working great but it would be nice to have these new tools ASAP.

    Many thanks.

    Rob

  • Hi Rob,

we are already finishing and polishing and testing and it is looking very good, that´s as far as my report can go at this time, but I will post final results when everything is 100% safe.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Best, Paul

  • When you say you are testing and polishing, does that mean the collections that will be released March/April? I suspect the 5 first collections are way beyond testing as they should be arriving at your offices tommorow?

  • Hi,

I understood that Tom aimed at the Mac development, that is where my comment is aiming (sorry, Tom, if that wasn´t correct).

Glad to see you a bit paranoid, Christian [:D]

Everything´s fine and yes, the 5 finished collections will hopefully arrive at our headquarters very soon, and yes, they have been tested extensively.

I can sleep better now [:D]

Does this mean that the AU version of VI is still in the testing phase and that we Mac users have to wait for another couple of weeks?

Guys this is of concern - indications from the above posts are that AU versions are still in development. I've committed £3000 plus for a fully working AU Library. The first part due for delivery soon and sent for DVD replication a while back, yet the statements on the forum are indicating Mac/AU development is incomplete so how can we have usable material on the DVD's.

Please can you clarify this misunderstanding ASAP.

    Thanks

  • I think there was an error in the countdown back in December. It should of said 41 not 14 day countdown. [*-)]

  • Some clarification about the AU version is needed. My understanding from when I originally ordered was that we had the choice of whether we would install on either PC or Mac or both based on how many dongles we ordered.

This led me to believe that the DVDs were compatiable for either Mac or PC.

Are we now to understand that there's a separate version for both PC and Audio Units on the Mac?

What's arriving on Feb 14 and what are you shipping to those who advanced ordered?

    PA

  • Er, I think that you'll find that "testing" refers to the questions about "how many, how fast, what Mobo etc". I can't see the AU version not being released at the same time as the VST, as we've been told that it is on the same DVDs.

  • I don't know what exactly is going on at VSL, but there is certainly an option:
The bulk of the Cube consists of samples, whereas (I imagine) the Audio Units themselves are small files.

So....VSL can ship to both Mac and PC users and provide the latest updated AU versions as downloads to registered owners.

It would be seriously frustrating to have installed all the sample files, but have no player with which to use them.

I believe that Herb and co should clarify the situation and end all of this speculation.

    Regards - Colin

  • There are sample content DVDs, which have to be used for both plattforms (Mas OSX, Windows XP). This is the major part of the install process, and you have to install the big content only once.
If you want to spread the content on different computers, you can copy the installed content wherever you want.

And there is a software CD-Rom, which includes the Vienna Instruments player software. This software does have a very small data size. There are two different versions (Mac OSX and Windows XP) and yes, for this there will be software updates in our user area.

    Production status update:
In the meantime we've recieved test master DVDs for all five volumes from our replication company, and everything is fine, so our technical departement was able to give a GO. Hopefully Best Service will recieve their versions this week.

Maybe it's a language thing. You install the big content once, and then I can copy it onto other systems.

Does this mean we need a separate 500GB drive to install all the samples on and then to other machines?

How do the extra dongles work with this or are they for the Vienna players?

    Thanks.

    PA

  • You can copy the content if you like, but you don't have to.

So for example you have installed everything on one computer, and later you decide you want to work with a 2nd computer, so you can copy everything or some parts - for example the string content - to this 2nd computer.

Also you have to transfer the string licenses of your 1st tongle to a 2nd dongle to be able to work with the string content on this 2nd computer.

That means, you don't need a tongle for copying installed sound content, you only need the dongle to open this content with your VI player.

basically the copy protection is based on three levels.
    a) you need a license to run the Vienna Instrument (*the GUI*)
    b) you need a license to load the standard library (of each collection)
    c) you need a license to load the extended library (of each collection)

i've mentioned earlier in another thread: each ViennaKey comes with a demo activation which allows 180 starts and loading processes.

to install the Vienna Instrument and to install the content an active license for the respective collection is needed (the demo activation covers that, so you don't loose time, even if you have no internet access at this point)

after this demo activation has expired, you need to have a ViennaKey with the respective active license plugged in on the computer, you want to run the installation of a certain collection, otherwise the installer will not run.

you can _copy_ this already installed content without the need of having a ViennaKey attached for example to another machine.
on this computer you now have to tell the Vienna Instrument about the location of the new content (using the VSL directory manager, which comes along with the Vienna Instrument program installation).

if you want to load instruments from this moved collection on your second computer you need to have a ViennaKey with the respective active license plugged in.

as also mentioned earlier it is possible to move a license from one ViennaKey to another using syncrosoft's license control center.

all this and more is covered in the manuals. printed ones come with each collection, a pdf can be found on the installation CD of the Vienna Instruments program.

hope that clears it up so far, christian

and remember: only a CRAY can run an endless loop in just three seconds.
  • Many thanks to Herb and cm for all that info!
I see Martin also posted in another topic - it certainly helps to know more about the state of things.

    Best regards - Colin

    Interesting.

I didn't think my original post would trigger so much response so quickly...
