  • Not the answer to your question, but Tiger has a network midi feature that may be useful if you plan to run multiple computers.

.. or Is it only for use with Tiger? I'm Running OSX 10.3.8, and it is extremely stable. Will I be forced to move up?

Are you running Logic? I've found Logic in Tiger to be very stable. If you do need to upgrade, I don't think it's something to worry about.

  • Hmm. ok. Well I have a ton of plug-ins in Logic. I'm just not bold enough to change yet again, especially when everything is working. Matter of Fact I'm still using Logic 7.0.

So does the performace tool still work well with Tiger? I've heard that there are problems. Especially with the Horizon series perf tool.

    Some of my other plugins:
    Absynth 2/ 3
    Mach 5
    All spectrasonics plug-ins (Atm,Tril,Styl).
    BFD
    Stormdrum
    Eastwest RA
    Synful

I swear I'll stay in Panther forever if I can. I'm more worried about function than upgrades. [[;)]]

Logic 7.1 is VASTLY more stable and trouble-free than Logic 7.0. IMO, if you're sticking with 7.0, you are not doing yourself any favors.

Obviously, when you update to Tiger and Logic 7.1, you will want to check for the latest updates of all your plug-ins. I wouldn't hesitate. Lots of progress has been made on most of the things you listed.

  • I have the opposite problem -- I upgrade too soon before I know what all the problems will be. At least you're not one of those guys still running OS9.

Horizon Perf tools works fine for me. The biggest drag I have is in going to ProTools 7, which is no longer compatible with Logic 7.

There's no reason not to upgrade to logic 7.1.1. Make sure you get the RA and Stormdrum hotfixes to make them AU compatible. Tiger is a nice cat -- however it's not advised to let spotlight snoop into your audio drives.

And what exactly is the benefit of multiple computers? with this upgrade .
Will it be able to help VI player in CPU/Ram ?
Or Just networking with midi. ?

    Thanks !

  • That would be to run multiple computers with stand-alone sample playback. Depending on your budget (if you're Hans Zimmer) you could connect 8 or 10 computers and send them all to a mixing board.

  • Rightfully so

And what about using say a couple of 24 track recorders. Wouldn't that make it easier to download tracks streight from one computer. Would that work?

    thanks !

  • Sure, I just don't know anyone still using tape -- I think AMPEX has even stopped making it. My friend in Nashville says all the song producers are scrambling to buy the remaining stock off ebay and the like. Laying back to tape is the same as bouncing in my mind; I think that's where the term comes from.

  • I am thinking of the 24 track alesis digital, with a removable hard drive.
sinking with midi time code to one computer. Have you heard anything about going that way. ?

  • No. but it sounds good

  • I'll dig into it a little further.
