  • VI and Logic 5.5.1

Just wondering - is there anything about the new VST VI instruments that will preclude them from working with the PC version of Logic. I know the software is abandoned but a quick test by opening some of the instruments would probably be sufficent. Lots of users of that prog still out there given that GS3 was the platform of choise for the VSL

  • Upgrading my Opus1 will depend of the VI working in Logic 5.5.1 for shure. So I would like to know that too.

  • Alright,

    Logic 5.1.1, it´s been a while.

I´ll test it and tell you.

  • It will be interesting to see if the "Optimise" feature of the VI will help Logic to deal in a better way with its 1 gigabyte RAM limit, this ugly bug that was never fixed by some well known lynig company....

    Anyway, thanks for testing Logic

  • Yes, Good point Michel. I doubt it will - the problem is with the host software and i don't think the VST plug-in will be able to fix that. Wish Emagic (Apple) would fix it as a goodwill gesture but I suppose I might as well be asking Santa.

  • Hi John,
I know that the problem is with Logic but my experience with that bug is that it is somehow possible to work with Logic with far more than 1 GB of samples loaded in RAM. This is possible when you start with a new Song from scratch : so a song that use yet no RAM or at least that use less than 1 gig of RAM.
The bug arise when you save/close a Song that use more than 1 Gig of RAM and that you try to reopen it later. Then, Logic will open the Song but immediatly you will have no more memory to work and will not be able to perform any operation (or you may even not be able to open it).
Shure, when you start a song from scratch and gradually make Logic use more than 1 GIG of RAM, unstability issue may arise and the memroy bug manifest with the consequence that you know.
So, at that point, does bringing down the used memory again under 1 GIG with the Optimise function, may allow to continue to work ?
Or, at least what I expect to be able to do is to performe the Optimise for bringing the memory used under 1Gig, saving my song, quiting/reloading Logic and opening my Song again. This should work.
If it was of this sh***ty bug, Logic would have been an absolute great software still for many years to come. But the only intention of emagic/apple was to kill logic pc as fast as possible.

And I think you would have more chance asking crackers than with Santa [[;)]]

  • Hi Guys!! I also don't want to give up on Logic for Windows, and I'm just wondering - wouldn't it be possible to use VStack (or something like it) as a VST host and just keep Logic as a MIDI sequencer???? I currently use GigaStudio but obviously VI won't run on that...

Otherwise either Cubase or that really expensive Powerbook is calling... (and in any case we're stuffed as soon as Windows goes 64 bit)...

    Regards,
