  • A question about the VI

    Hi there,

I haven't been to this site for a while, and had my first look at the VI.
It looks very interesting (as I was never happy with Gigastudio), but I don't really understand what I'm supposed to do to work with this. I bought the entire library (Pro Edition and Horizon) about 4 months ago. I assume I can use this with the VI? I checked the "discount" area, but apparantly no discount was offered, which is probably just a misstake.
So I'd like to hear more about it!

    Thanks in advance,

    Alex

    1) VI uses an integral sample player, so no you can't use it with Giga.
    2) There is no discount for the Standard content, but you will get a substantial discount on the Extended content. Check the discount calculator.

There are loads of threads about all this, so happy reading......

  • Hi DG,

Thanks for your reply. As for the VI, this is a huge disappointment!
This is something I didn't expect from VSL, to be honest. People who bought earlier libraries should definitely get a discount. In fact, they should only be paying for the Sample player itself, the converted samples that registred owners own should be offered at a very low price, if not for free and new sounds should be offered for sale optionally.
As I understand it now, if I want to get the VI-version of, let's say, Solo Violins, I have to pay €375 again??? And if I want to have the VI-version of my entire library, it will cost me € 4.580??? This is unaccepteable, I'm sorry!

    Sincerely,

    Alex

This has been discussed a lot during the last days and opinions vary greatly from all the way white to all the way black, so to say.
IMHO, for those who intend to move to the VI Complete Edition, the upgrade pricing is very acceptable,
price 50% less than new, 100% more samples, VST plugin with great features for articulation switching.
For those who would like to only move to the Standard Edition: They were not taken care of.

personally I would say that for those that are not interested in a full orchestra but rather in specific great instruments the VI and the upgrade pricings are really the "goodbye kiss" VSL is giving us. For example for my French Oboe I just need to pay about 2.5 times the price to update it, as I payed originally.

approx. 2.5 times - quite steep. What does it help that I get lots of other samples that will let me need to buy another HD and a S-ATA PCI card.

I think for Solo Strings and Chamber Strings update prices are logical - they were the full package so why offer an update from a full package to a sub-package. For the Harp I cannot say. For Sax and Guitars might also be ok some day (well, maybe until then the had the idea that I would need a keyboard package with my saxophones and pack it into one VI).
Opus and the orchestral Horizon packs (Epic Horns, French Oboe, etc.) users are quite left in the rain. If I bought a package for $800 I might not be interested to spend several thousands for the update.
I do not say that anybody has to update - but it seems clear that there will not be a lot of future options for these products. I hope they will think about it and take licensing of individual instruments in the VI in consideration.

still leaves me with a HD problem and so on.
