  • Is the Leg tool or Pleg sampling Patenable ??

I'm sure many of you have read the ongoing discussion on the NS board about QLSO vs. VSL. It is hard to imagine doing without pleg samples once you have them. Is this idea protected by the developers of VSL?? I am curious if VSL will be the only library that will ever have this feature.

    Thanks,

  • Hard to say, if any other producers will take the step to legato samples.
First you have to develop the software, which manages the sample stuff, but that's not the main point.

The recording and editing is an huge undertaking. Don't forget, you have to record 24 variations for each note (on one dynamic level). That is extremly exhausting for the musicians and time consuming.
For some instruments we need more than 15 recording sessions to record all variations (piano, forte , with/without portamento, and so on).

Some intervallsteps could be extremly difficult for individual instruments.
I don't know the intervall, but the contra bassoon had to record an certain intervall, which the player never played before (in legato), and they needed half an hour to work it out right.

And than you have to edit the stuff, it's a never ending learning curve, how to prepare the samples perfectly for the legato mode.

    best wishes
