    Now I've watched the videos a few time I have a few questions, some of which may have been posted elsewhere (sorry).

    1) Legato instruments are monophonic, others are polyphonic; can they be played within the same instrument?

    2) Currently I pan the audio coming out of GS to save time later (collapsing the stereo width as necessary). Is this possible with VI, as MIDI panning is rubbish?

    3) The velocity crossfade sounds as if it should work well with ensemble instruments, but sounds "phasey" with solo instruments. Does VSL have a solution up it's sleeve, even if the details are top secret?

    4) I sometimes use a combination of Pro Strings, Chamber Strings and Solo Strings to get a better sound for an individual line. Will I need to use 3 instances or can I do it from one MIDI channel?

    5) I have asked about legato release samples elsewhere, but not yet got a reply, so I'll ask again. Currently there are times when trying to get a release sample to work with the legato instruments is well nigh impossible, and I have to resort to an extra MIDI track. Will it be possible to automate the use of RS when a gap between notes is more than a certain length?

    6) Will it be possible to use a keyswitch (or controller) to "force" a start note with legato instruments, even when there is no gap between notes?

    7) Will it be possible to control the release times of legato notes with a controller, as it is now?

    This should be question eight! The new repetition section looks very exciting, particularly as I've only just got into this section of the Performance Set. Will it be possible to choose which of the Rep notes is used, much as one can do with a keyswitch in the current Matrix?

    That's all for now, but I'm sure that the questions will start coming thick and fast once people have stopped taking about prices [:D]

    This has astonished me more than the strange upgrade path...
    I listened to the sound of the videos with headphones.... this "phasey" sound
    is not usable in my ears.
    There is no single instrument sounding this way...

    Yes

    I'm not the specialist for this question, but if you use as aVST you make your pannings in your sequenzing software

    The crossfanding with soloinstruments works much better than with current systems, because of a different design. But it's no morphing or a similiar technique.

    Theoretically you can stack 2 instruments without a problem in one instance. If you use only single cell matrix files (no switching) even three instruments.

    Release Samples are triggered automatically. You don't have to do anything if you use performance legato instruments. There is an option to switch Release samples generally ON or OFF.

    You have the option to use Velocity as a switch controller in a Matrix setup.
    That means you can trigger normal sustains, or sfz and marcato samples at a certain controller level of your choice.
    This Velocity Switch controller feauture is most usefull if you perform in velocity crossfade mode, here you controll volume and velocity with a slider and you can use velocity to trigger different "startingnotes" during a legato performed passage.

    7) Will it be possible to control the release times of legato notes with a controller, as it is now?

    There is a kind of overlap control in the interval logic, that means if you perform legato and keep overlaps between the notes you get a longer releasetime.

    This should be question eight! The new repetition section looks very exciting, particularly as I've only just got into this section of the Performance Set. Will it be possible to choose which of the Rep notes is used, much as one can do with a keyswitch in the current Matrix?

    No, it's not possible in this current version. Everything is automated to keep it as simple as possible.

    If you're a Cubase user, you can use the Mixer where you can see your VST instruments like normal audio channels. Right-click on a channel's pan display to set panning to true stereo, and you can regulate stereo width here.

    Great reminder David. Thanks from all us SX users. Of course when MIR is available (and another PC to run it) - this will not be needed.

  • One more question that occurs to me. At the moment Macs are able to access more RAM, which means at last there is actually a point in having one. Not buying one, you understand, just using one that you already own [:D]

    However, it occurred to me that if I am using multiple instances of VI on a separate PC connected via Teleport (assuming that this works), would I be able to take advantage of the 3GB switch, as no single instance would be using all the RAM?
