No you can't upgrade to the extended content only. Everybody has to purchase the standard library, new customers and Upgraders, but Upgraders get far more content for very little more money.
-
The Upgrades from the Horizon Series to the Vienna Instruments are only available if they are to the benefit of the user.
If you own Chamber Strings of the Horizon Series, you will have to pay the full price of the standard collection, but to extend your content you already have with your sample library you should upgrade to the standard AND the extended content. The extended content will cost you EUR 30 only. So why bother purchasing the standard content only?
So everybody pays the standard library, but Upgraders get amazing prices for the extended content.
O, guess I got it now. [:D]
The standard library has less samples than the current VSL Chamber Strings Horizon library. So an upgrade doesn't make too much sense. [;)]
Actually, for the new customers it is a good thing to have 2 versions of Chamber Strings to start with.

To be honest, you lost me as a customer, now.
I don't need extended samples, I'm just a hobby musician who was willing to spend 800 Euros for Chamber Strings. But the VSL upgrade plan is too much for my purposes.
If I could get just an upgrade to the Chamber Strings Standard Edition for 50% off, that would be in my range of thinking. I don't need an increased choice of samples, but I surely would love to have the engine. I'd even give back the one's I have to get the Standard edition with the new engine. [:)] Make me an offer [[[;)]]]

Dear tele,
I am sorry we can only offer Upgrades and no Downgrades. Going from Chamber Strings Horizon to Chamber Strings Vienna Instrument Standard would be more like a Downgrade as it includes less samples.
Regards, Anna

This is of course just content wise (number o samples) You get a lot of the new articulations with the Standard Content PLUS (and that is the coolest part) the Vienna Instruments, which will really change your aproach on how to play a virtual instrument on your keyboard. So you do get additional new samples, and you still have all the samples you already own.
So you can definitely dry your tears, it will all be good!
Best, Paul

Paul, can I jump in here.
I use Sibelius notation software and not a keyboard to generate my performances.
Can you confirm that people like me will be able to generate all the control commands in the VI using midi instructions inserted in a Sibelius Score.
Many thanks

Hey, Paul. Thanks for trying to comfort me.
What I'm really missing is an upgrade comparable to, let's say Halion 2 to Halion 3 or maybe like Kontakt to Kontakt2. Your Upgrade offer is more like a Cubase SL to Cubase SX step. No choice for me to stay on the SL Level, and have the latest version.
An upgrade that lets me stay on about the same amount of samples, but gives me the new engine would be what I need. Unfortunately this is not part of your upgrade program.
As a hobby musician, I can justify 200 or 250 Euros to my family for an engine upgrade, but I can't justify another over 500 Euros just for my personal fun.
Well I guess, I am not your common target customer.
Therefore I will go on crying. [:'(]

I was very interested in buying the chamber strings one month ago but now I'm confused :all these versions of the same product are very confusing indeed.
The cost of the "old" library was 800 $ and for the price the "fast reps" for example, were available.
Now if I want to get them (correct me if I'm wrong), I have to buy the standard + extended = full library ? That means that you force people to buy the full library to get articulations that were available with the old library.
I already guess your answer : there are new features and brand new samples in the full library, but the fact is that for Christmas I expected a discount on the 800 $ library (a lot of money for me) and now if I want to get the articulations I need, I have to spend 1300 bucks (discount included !), something I can't afford and I think a lot of people is in the same case : whose people are these libraries made for ?
Please tell me if I'm wrong and if it's still possible to get all the articulations of the old version for less than 800 $

you can get the current version with 35% discount, that about €500
the full price for the standard version will be about €500.
As an owner of the Horizon version, which you can get for 35% less, you'll get the upgrade to the extended version for €30.
makes a sum of slightly above 1000, not 1300 (in Euros, that is)

Thank you, I thougt that the Horizon version was discontinued, $ 582 is still expensive but much more affordable : it's so confusing to keep in mind all these versions of an existing product.
The price and the amount of computers required to run these libraries is truly unbelievable : only studios or busy pros can afford that I assume.
I remember some years ago : the Vitous lib was so expensive that it was inconceivable for me to get it , now the entire lib is sold for $ 200 !
